The murder was horrendous and so was how badly her husband was treated at her funeral because EVERYONE thought HE was the killer because that's what the press and police put out there. Of course, that was completely wrong.
In the meantime, the whole city had gone on alert. The woman drug addict was killed when she broke into a nearby house and walked up the stairs. The homeowner ordered her to halt and when she wouldn't, he fired through the obscure glass security door he had just recently installed at the top of the stairs.
The aftermath was just as terrible. Not only were Caren and Jack victims, but also the parents of the two boys who were involved in the murder.

Welcome Danielle and Thank You so much for your interest in our fourm/members and stories.
I know of three WS cases that would be very interesting;
1)Tawni Lee Mazzone http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=139
2)Benjaman Kyle http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=147
Also, in the works, not solved YET but will be I guarantee it will be !
3)Michael Tapley, http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sho...michael+tapley
a man missing since feb 08 from Snowflake AZ and the wife is the suspect. She is happily going about her business because the police don't have any evidence. There is tons of circumstantial evidence. There will be searches in the near future by friends. I can't say more about this online because the wife reads here, but if you want info just p.m. me. The missing man's sister is a now a member here on WS (she signed up here after Michael went missing in hopes of having us help her find her brother). We have been able to help her and her family in the way of getting stories done in the newspapers, online radio programs and blogs. We had a letter writing/emailing campaign going on with WS'ers and the sister said it must have helped because law enforcement are talking to the family and doing more than before. KIM155 is Michael's sisters name here on WS. There is another newspaper article coming out today fyi.

The Shawn Hornbeck Case
The Akers (Shawn's mother and step-father) never gave up searching for him. They established the Shawn Hornbeck foundation and instituted fingerprinting children in the hope that if they ever went missing there were fingerprints on file. They searched for 4 years, placed his photo on bus stop benches with age progressed photos. They called in TES to search. They were constantly searching and on tv every anniversary that went by and they never gave up hope. Shawn was eventually found when Michael Devlin kidnapped another boy, Ben Ownby in January of 2007. Both boys are back home and adjusting and Michael Devlin is behind bars for life. The Akers did not actually find Shawn but they utilized every resource available and created some of their own.

I am sure Ms. Wilkinson can find a ton of interesting cases which haven't been solved here, but there are few which have been solved by family or others working on them outside of Law Enforcement to keep them going. We really need to research those and bring them to the forefront here for her.
This is what was posted initially here and to keep us on track, I will repost it.:

TLC is producing a new true crime series.
We are looking for people who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the police solve a loved one’s case.
We are specifically looking for cases that were eventually solved due to the persistence and investigative work of friends or family members of the victims.
We are trying to highlight the importance of taking an active role in and investigation and let people know, they can make a difference.
Here is the info I promised:
Production Company: True Entertainment

The show will be airing on TLC.
TLC Site: http://tlc.discovery.com/
Please let me know if you need any additional info or have any additional

I'm not sure if they helped to solve her murder, but Stephanie Schmidt's parents certainly took action of out of this tragedy and changed the law. http://www.sos.lawrence.com/

This one connects to your outline only loosely, but it shows how a person can take a tragedy and get involved in trying to solve it. And in the process, help so many others.
Kelly Jolkowski's son Jason was a young adult when he went missing, and he has never been found. It isn't known if there is any crime involved. But she began a search for him, and in the process of looking for him has become an advocate and voice for victims everywhere. She is the founder of Project Jason. She posts on here as Kelly and through her work with Project Jason, she has helped to push awareness of missing adults and promoted different ways of publicizing the disappearances.

Others have mentioned Tim Miller and Mark Lunsford and I am all for those. Polly Klaus's father should also be included.

The case of Tim Miller's daughter was never solved. However, Tim or TES would be a rich resource for more stories.

 You are welcome, AzGiGi.
I have been researching various cases from OK all evening and found one that might soon be perfect for the show. They may have a huge break finally, but the OSBI haven't publically said anything yet. (At least, I believe it is on this case the way it reads.)
It appears the father of a murdered woman never gave up on finding his daughter's killer from 1988 in a small town here and he even went back to school to obtain a degree in Criminal Justice to pursue the case. Her daughter wrote letters to AMW (no response) and has worked since she was 16 years old to keep it going (she was 7 or 8 yo at the time of the murder).
I was fascinated by reading the cold case file on it. I will let you know when they update it again (was updated in late September). It is not among cases listed here at WS.

Suggestion for the credits at the end of the show...
I am sure that this has come up already, Danielle, but since unresolved cases will not be part of the show for now, would it be possible to have some of the heart-wrenchers posted here featured at the end of the show?? Sort of "if you have any information re:..." am I making any sense??
LOL

The thing about that case is the female defendent, Stephanie Stearns (given the pseudo name Jennifer Jenkins in the book) who was represented by Bugliosi, was found innocent of murder. In the meantime "Buck" Wesley Walker has written a book claiming that the Grahams actually were a murder/suicide called:
Palmyra: The True Story of an Island Tragedy
From what I understand it's self-published. I haven't been able to get a copy of it. I'm sure it's a pack of lies, but it would be interesting, all the same to catch up on what has happened to Buck and Stephanie all these years later.
The way this case was solved - or even caught to begin with was that when Buck and Stephanie got back to Hawaii, friends of the Grahams's recognized their yacht - although it had been hastily repainted - and contacted authorities.

I remember that story, I have the book. It is very interesting. I didn't know that Buck got out of jail?!

Hello Everyone!
I can't thank you all enough for your effort and research into these cases. And also, thanks for keeping it on track. While we are interested in all cases it is true that we are particularly interested in solved cases that were "cracked" or "solved" or pushed along in some way by a friend or family member. The crime can be anything, not just murder. Kidnapping, missing persons, rape etc. are all things we are interested in hearing about.
As for the cases that are unsolved, I can make no promises but I can say we are gathering them up and if we can spread the word we will. They deserve attention and at the very least, we hope our show will inspire those still searching for answers to never give up hope.
I love all of the thoughts and suggestions. Like I said, this is your world and I am only a visitor so I defer to all of you to "train" me.
Thanks again

WS will be listed only if TLC uses one of our ideas or one of our cases.
Don't tell Danielle but I am, at some point, going to ask if TLC could link WS on their webpage dealing with the show In turn we will link TLC on our front page www.websleuths.com
But that is later after TLC becomes addicted to us and can't live without us. LOL
