ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- George Anthony, father of Casey Anthony, has been reported missing.

The lead investigator in the case and several Orange County sheriff's deputies were reported at the house of George and Cindy Anthony early Friday morning. A Sheriff's Office helicopter was also at the scene, along with the Anthonys' son, Lee, and their attorney Brad Conway.

I'm confused. It is currently as I type this FRIDAY January 23, 2009 at 3:15 a.m. EST. So how could GA be reported missing *this* morning (it says Friday in the article) and found later on *this* same day at a motel?

Did he actually go missing on THURSDAY, January 22 and the Friday was a typo?

"George Anthony has been gone since 8:30 this morning and he has taken several bottles of medication from his house," attorney Brad Conway told the 911 dispatcher in the call around 11:00pm Thursday.

George left his home Thursday around 10:30am for a job interview, but Cindy later realized he had taken his two weeks' supply of blood pressure and sleep medication and he had taken a photo of Cindy and Casey with him, but nothing else.

Jose Baez told Eyewitness News he got a call from Anthony family attorney Brad Conway on Thursday night that George Anthony was missing. Baez was at the jail visiting Casey until midnight and returned to see her Friday morning around 11:00am.

Cheney Mason has practiced law in Florida for nearly 30 years. He's been on several high-profile cases, including the Lisa Nowak case.

News 13 asked him about paying for a defense of this magnitude. Mason said Baez might be thinking more about notoriety than a payday.

He quickly pointed out that if any attorney were to write a book about a case they worked on, they wouldn't be able to practice law in Florida.

Mason also said if Anthony were to claim she was partially indigent, the state could help pay for the case and any expensive experts.

His wife, Cindy Anthony, told police officers that her husband disappeared soon after she had asked him to pick out jewelry for Caylee's funeral. She believed that might have made him more depressed.

George Anthony took with him bottles of medication and a photo of his wife and daughter, Casey Anthony, according to the police report. Casey Anthony, Caylee's mother, is charged with her child's murder. Caylee wasn't reported missing for nearly a month after she vanished.


A jail spokesperson said Casey Anthony is aware of what happened overnight with her father. "She was told about the situation this morning by Corrections Health Services Staff," the spokesperson said.

The Corrections department does not release any information about the demeanor or reaction of any inmate in their custody.

7:39 a.m.: A Halifax Hospital spokeswoman says in addition to the psychological observation, George Anthony is also facing medical issues, but because of privacy laws she could not be specific. He is in stable condition. She told News 13 that no family members have been at the hospital to visit George, countering an earlier report that his son, Lee Anthony, was there.

Cindy Anthony is expected to go and see him at some point this morning.

The story broke about 1:20 a.m. Friday morning, WKMG anchor Erick Weber said. WKMG interrupted CBS' "Early Show" at 7 a.m. to continue with the story. George Anthony's daughter, Casey, has been charged with daughter Caylee's murder.

WKMG's Tony Pipitone said people will speculate that George Anthony has something to hide. Pipitone noted there have been some discrepancies in what George has said about Caylee's disappearance. "Unless he's intentionally withholding evidence or anything like that, he doesn't face any legal jeopardy in this case, and that's what the family attorney has said," Pipitone said. "It could simply be that the pressures, which must be so enormous, have gotten to be too much."

George Anthony's wife, Cindy Anthony, and their attorney, Brad Conway, reported him missing after he failed to arrive at a 4 p.m. Thursday meeting with them, officials said.

Meanwhile, Local 6 News learned Thursday that a gas can with apparent duct tape on it that was seized from the home of George and Cindy Anthony, where Casey Anthony and Caylee lived, is being compared to duct tape found over Caylee's mouth because the tape appears to be identical.

The gas can was seized by investigators Aug. 1 from the Anthony home. Local 6 News showed video of the metal gas can, which appeared to have silver duct tape on it.

Law School Hires Jose Baez To Teach Students

Casey Anthony's attorney has faced plenty of criticism in the case for forgetting the judge's jurisdiction and for improperly filing court motions. Eyewitness News has now learned Jose Baez has been hired by FAMU law school to teach up-and-coming lawyers.

Baez is not teaching freshmen, he's teaching upper-level classes how to get ready for trial.

Jose Baez passed the bar exam just three years ago. He has already confused jurisdiction and botched a motion in the Casey Anthony case. Now, he's teaching law students at FAMU.

Attorney Files Motion Over Forensic Exam

The attorney for Casey Anthony filed a motion late Friday afternoon seeking more information about an ex-boyfriend of his client's who posted a picture on MySpace that showed a man and woman with the title "win her over with chloroform."

Jose Baez wants prosecutors to turn over information about Ricardo Morales, including details about a forensic examination conducted on his computer.

Baez said he wants to determine if the evidence is incriminating, so he filed the motion, which could be heard as early as Friday.

The lawyer for Lee Anthony said on Sunday that Lee is working out of town and trying to deal with his father's issues the best he can.

Investigators also said that they are still looking into possible charges against Lee Anthony. However, Conway said Lee Anthony is not asking for immunity from prosecution because the family isn't sure why he would need it.

Meanwhile, the attorney for George and Cindy Anthony said the strain of waiting so long to bury Caylee was a contributing factor to George's desire to harm himself.
