CORSICANA, Texas - The Navarro County Sherriff’s Office needs help finding an 18-month-old girl reported missing.

According to a release, Sandra Espinoza dropped her daughter Jasliene Morales off with her boyfriend before work Tuesday. No one has seen the toddler or 22-year-old Jose Andres Martinez since 5 a.m., deputies said.

Martinez may have the toddler in his red 1998 Ford Expedition, deputies said. The vehicle has an Oklahoma license plate with the number HNJ769.

The Navarro County Sheriff's Office is searching for an 18-month-old girl after she was reported missing by her mother.

Sandra Espinoza told authorities she last saw her daughter, Jasliene Morales, at 5 p.m. Monday, which was when her boyfriend dropped her off at work.

Driving a red 1998 Ford Expedition 4x4, 22-year-old Jose Andres Martinez was last seen with the child at 5 a.m. in Corsicana, authorities said. The license plate for the Ford is HNJ 769.

This just sounds stupid to me! This man does not have legal custody of Jasilene, so why does it not meet the criteria? Does that mean that if your babysitter kidnaps your child, no Amber Alert can ever be issued? How about a non-custodial parent? Doesn't that cover the VAST majority of child abductions?

Why aren't they releasing photos and a description of this man? He should be plastered all over the news!!! He has a child who doesn't belong to him and is out of contact. He is not where he is supposed to be!

Do they really think that he is just late coming back from getting ice cream if they have been gone all night?????

Yeah, I don't understand either. How are people supposed to be on the look out if they don't release pictures of the child or the guy? All we have is a description of the car.

I agree that no description of the man and child is rediculout. But guidelines are in place for AMBER Alerts. Even though he has no right to have the child, unless police have reason to believe that he will harm her, they won't issue the alert (in most states). It's likely not just because he has babysat the child in the past. That being said...I hope they are correct in their judgment and he will not harm her. And they need to release pictures and descriptions ASAP!

Actually - we don't know that he doesn't have legal custody. If he is the baby's father and the parents were living together and he took care of the baby, he has just as much right to the child as the mom does. If, for some reason, he feels it is necessary to leave his girlfriend, maybe he does not think she is a very good mom and he is taking the child also and then will file for custody. This is ALL speculation on my part. I have NO idea what is happening here and I would be very worried. However, I do suspect he is the baby's dad because of the no amber alert. So, if he is the dad, he had not broken any laws, at least not yet.

I hope they are found soon and LE can straighten the mess out and that the baby is okay. I'm really hoping my speculation turns out to be close to the truth and this guy is not "wigging out."

I would think that if the boyfriend were also the dad, they would refer to him that way instead of "last seen with the mother's 22 year old boyfriend."

As much as I hope you are right, the media doesn't normally report on issues like this when it's a custodial parent. Why is it a story if they aren't even going to release a picture??? Either she's missing and presumed in danger or not. And BTW, they could both be in danger. What if his car went into a ditch somewhere and he has amnesia or is in a coma? What if they were carjacked? Hello! Show a picture! Who does that hurt??? This baby has been gone since MONDAY!!!

The first link now has a pic of the boyfriend. I am no expert but I think if he had custody of the child the Mom not seeing the child for 3 days during the week would not be considered a crime, or a kidnapping.

UPDATE - MISSING CHILD FOUND

From Staff Reports

Navarro County Sheriff's Deputies have reported an 18-month-old girl reported missing Tuesday afternoon has been found.

Chief Deputy Mike Cox said in a news release the child had been located, and the search had been called off.

The child, 18-month-old girl, Jasliene Morales, had been reported missing by her mother. Authorities issued an alert for the missing child Tuesday afternoon, and flyers with the girl's picture were being posted on store windows late Tuesday.

Authorities have not said whether or not the boyfriend of the mother, who was also being sought, had been located.

We'll post more details as they become available.

I am so glad she was found. It doesn't say what her condition was? Is that strange? The article was very short on details.

Poor baby! I'm glad she was found safely in time to get her out of that car before she died inside!

So much for her being safe with her "dad".

Ruled a suicide. I can't believe that he put his daughter in harm's way just to commit suicide. Why not call someone first and tell them where the baby is? Did he plan on killing her too, or just plan on letting her suffocate to death in a car? Or maybe he did call someone and we just don't know about it yet. Sad really. Wonder what drove him to that point. We will probably never know.

Glad that the baby is safe and sound back home.

TripleA - we don't know that he was the "dad". I was speculating about why maybe he ran off with the baby. I was trying to come up with something more positive than he took her to harm her - that's all. I agree with all your questions though! Why would he take the baby to go kill himself? Weird! I wonder if he did plan on harming the child, but changed his mind.
