Coast Guard officials have suspended the search for a missing Bay St. Louis teen.

17-year-old John Stephens went missing Saturday night while surfing with his grandfather.

The men were off the coast of Navarre Beach near Pensacola.

Body of missing surfer found near Opal Beach

The body of a surfer reported missing Saturday afternoon near the Navarre Beach Pier was found this afternoon, the Gulf Islands National Seashore said.

John Stevens was reported missing about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

A couple walking on a National Seashore beach some five miles west of the pier discovered a body floating in the surf at 2:45 p.m., said Clayton Jordan, chief ranger of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

“They went out to give assistance and pulled him into the shore and observed that he was obviously deceased,” Jordan said.“It’s a body of a white male and the physical description matches that of John Stevens who disappeared Saturday.”
