Amber Alert Issued for Endangered Child
Colorado Springs Police want you to be on the lookout for a missing child that may be in danger.
The Crimes Against Children Unit says Emanuel Guzman, is possibly being taken to Mexico by his parents, Carmen Aguilera and Benito Guzman. The little boy is almost two years old.
Emanuel is considered endangered because he requires medical care for severe burns. He was injured in April of 2009. The El Paso County Department of Human Services currently has a court order to take protective custody of Emanuel.

Amber Alert
The suspects are wanted by the Colorado Springs Police Department for felony child abuse. They are facing charges relating to the abuse and burning of the infant son, Emanuel Guzman. Both parents failed to appear in court on 5/21/09 and custody of their son has been transferred to the Department of Human Services. Recent investigative information has determined that both suspects may be attempting to flee with the child to Mexico.

Amber Alert continues for missing toddler
The search for a missing 23-month-old who police say was burned by his parents continues despite an Amber Alert.
Colorado Springs Police are looking for Emanuel Guzman and his parents Benito Guzman and Carmen Aguilera.
Police issued the Amber Alert late Friday night.

Amber Alert Becomes Longest In Program’s History
A severely burned toddler who police said was abducted by his own parents has become the subject of the longest-running Colorado Amber Alert in the program’s history.

Police said they had been investigating the couple since the burns were discovered in April, and that DHS had initially taken the boy into protective custody.
“As we were continuing our investigation, a magistrate gave custody back to the father,” said Steckler.
Police said El Paso County DHS didn’t notify them until Friday that the couple had not shown up for court, which is why officers did not request the alert until then.
"That's not normal, but it's what happened in this case," said Steckler.
Police believe the parents may have gone to Mexico with the child.
His mother’s other three children have been taken into protective custody.

Another child failed by the system,poor little guy. Why on earth did they give him back?

Some interesting info on the AMBER Alert system in Colorado and if it failed for Emanuel. There's more at the link, but I thought the part about only running the Alert on the highway boards from 11pm to 3am was crazy.
Springs Boy Still Missing: Amber Alert Still On
A one-year-old boy is still missing even after a statewide Amber Alert was filed late Friday night.
Colorado Springs Police believe Emanuel Guzman was taken by his parents in Colorado Springs. Police say the boy's parents are wanted for felony child abuse and failed to appear in court on Thursday, May 21.
NEWSCHANNEL 13 wanted to know if the Amber Alert system failed the one-year old.

"We will gather all of the information, enter the information as much as we have, get those pictures out there and get people looking at the pictures," Steve Johnson, of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, says.
A Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 Amber Alert messages were posted on billboards along I-25 at 11:06 PM Friday night. The spokesman says they ran until 3:20 AM Saturday morning - around four hours and 15 minutes - during a time when a few people travel on the roads.

Amber Alert messages with important information are posted on electronic billboards on various roads, including stretches of I-25. The goal is to keep you on the lookout for a specific car or person while you drive. But if you're not driving at the right times, there's a good chance you'll never know about the Amber Alert.
On May 23rd, an Amber Alert was issued for one-year-old Emanuel Guzman of Colorado Springs. At the time, police believed his parents were taking the boy to Mexico. At the time the Amber Alert was issued, the boy's parents were considered fugitives and were wanted by police.
Guzman's Amber Alert message aired on billboards for about four hours from late Friday night into Saturday morning. It was during a time when most people were asleep and not on the roads. Hours after the message was taken down, thousands of Memorial weekend travelers packed the roads for a weekend road trip.
Guzman's Amber Alert is Colorado's longest running alert.

Little Emanuel is still missing. Over 13 months now with his abusers. He just turned 3 years old on the 18th of June. His AMBER Alert was "deactivated" today, although he remains missing.
