PA - Brenda Heist, 42, Lititz, 8 Feb 2002

Her page on Charley Project contains some wrong information. It says Brenda disappeared and her car was found on North George Street in New York City 40 miles from Lititz PA. I used to live on the 300 block of North George Street but not in NYC but in York, PA! Which is 40 miles from Lititz. Is there anyone to contact to have this information corrected? This could lead people to look for her in New York but she disappeared from PA. Here is her link. Going to look for UID's in PA now.

Hmmm...I haven't heard about this case before and only live a couple of miles from Lititz. I am going to have to do some more research.

I remember way back reading it was going to be pretty bitter divorce, but the husband was at work the day she disappeared. He was a POI at the time. No money was taken from her accounts. Just my 2 cents. LOL

Well if the husband was involved he would have had a noticable time of abscence from work. Valley Forge is about an hour's drive ( especially if he drove route 30)from Lititz.. so he would have to account for the time to drive to and from Lititz and do possible harm his STBX wife, hide her, as well as getting her car to York. Its not likely he could do all that and not be noticed as missing or unaccounted for at work. There may have been call records indicating his presence at work to field the calls from the children. So either he hire someone ( ie had help in some way) or he is not involved. It could be that she ran into someone while looking for a rental/ new home.. I wonder what she was using for her search.. newspaper ads, the internet or some other means of searching..I wonder if there is a record of what homes she was to see that day or her plans for the day

Here's a long article that was in the local evening paper two weeks ago. I must have missed it because we get the morning paper.

When I first read about this case, of course I thought the husband should be suspect #1. But after looking at a PA map, I just don't see how he could have done it without someone seeing/noticing something.

If I'm not mistaken, Lititz is about 60 miles southwest of Valley Forge, Pa, which is where hubby worked. Brenda's car, however, was located in York, which is about 35 miles southwest of York.

Very puzzling! Especially when one takes into account the fact that this woman was going through a divorce, and was looking for a new house at the time of her disappearance. Reports indicate the divorce was amicable, but still...

I'm scratching my head!

I just read that she was found on Fox News. Here is the link: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/05/01...est=latestnews

I also feel for her children. I looked like the homeless life took a toll on her.

Attached is the picture of when she went missing and of her current photo.

Her ex-husband got the courts to declare her legally dead two years ago and he has remarried, Schofield said.

"She has a birth certificate and a death certificate so she's got a long ways to make this right again," Schofield said.
"She's got to take it slow with her family, I'm sure, and it's going to be a long process."

---------------

When Schofield called to meet with her ex-husband Lee Heist and their daughter, they assumed he would be notifying them that her remains were found, the detective said.

----------------------

Heist turned herself in to police in Key Largo, Fla., on Friday, regarding some outstanding warrants, and then informed them she was a missing person.

http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/state/b...#ixzz2S4j7ywi4

Why did she have warrants yet not show up as a missing person?
Was she using a false name?
Does she WANT to meet her family?
Does her family WANT to meet her?

Wow....just, wow. Our family visited California earlier this year- first time for the kids and I. We saw several groups of homeless people. I recently joined this site and just today, after reading countless missing persons cases, wondered how many homeless I saw there in CA (and all over) had people out there looking for them.

Praying for her and her family... especially the children. They are going to have mental issues, such as future fears of abandonment, they are going to have to work through.

This article has a little more information from the ex-husband. It sounds like he dealt with a lot of suspicion after she disappeared but stood by his kids. I can't imagine being those kids -- adults now -- and having to deal with this news. It's good that she's alive, but she put them through a lot.

Here is the article about the husband. He says he is angry because of the children, but that he will try to forgive her. I think the photo moved him. http://lancasteronline.com/article/l...rgive-her.html
