Mom Charged with Turning Oven On with Son Inside
Dear goodness.
Dad beats son, mom turns oven on after boy crawls in to hide
You know, in some way the oven being turned on isn't the worst thing about this case. I mean, yes, that's heinous, but imagine being a little boy so traumatized and scared that he'd climb into the oven out of desperation. And the guy tried to beat the boy in front of cops!

What is wrong with parents these days! This makes me so angry.
Thankfully there is a bright spot, the child survived this and will never have to live with these SOBs ever again!

I hope somebody rescues this boy from his abusers -- before we see another thread with an even worse story....poor little guy tried to run away & he didn't make it...makes me wanna cry.
No wonder cops are so stressed out -- ya know they had to be thinking how much they wanted to put a beatdown on that "dad".

10 years old... imagine all the suffering he lived through in that decade.
Hope he can be put with good people who can undo the damage done.

Good grief, the "father" of this ten year old boy is 23. He was 13 whent the boy was born? The "mother" is 27. This is all so sick and disturbing. This poor little boy never had a chance. This has been a terrible day for children being abused, forsaken, and murdered by their parents.

He isn't the biological father (according to another article I have found).

That would make sense. Usually they say boyfriend or stepfather. It isn't unusual for the boyfriend to be this young. Young, unemployed, and mean as he**.

And not particularly fond of his girlfriend's son, to put it mildly.

according to this chart http://norml.org/pdf_files/state_pen..._Penalties.pdf
there's a stiffer penalty for having an ounce & a half of marijuana-- up to 5 yrs & $10K fine
Something is seriously wrong here.

Just a year in prison, seriously just a year? There needs to be a serious overhaul in sentencing guidelines, because really a year is just ridiculous.

A year for malicious child abuse and five years for and ounce and a half of weed. Hmmm.

I am not going to read the links-just a wild guess that there was meth involved here somewhere. I am glad the stepfather took off after the boy in front of LE, just so there is NO QUESTION of reuniting the poor angel with either of them.

I am so tired of reading about all these stories of abuse and neglect. I am just so sad. These children are brought into the world not by choice but by irresponsibility. Children are a gift and the greatest and most valuable natural resource we have on earth. It is incomprehensible that we lose even one life. Can you believe that we lose 5, yes 5 children A DAY, do to abuse and neglect? One Thousand eight hundred and twenty five lives.

snip~Morbeck said the general public can help out, too, by being vigilant of families around them.
Folks should report suspicions of abuse or neglect to law enforcement of IDHW.
" Not closing your eyes to it is really important," Mobeck said. "It's happening in your community, and it's happening right next door to you."~ end

I don't mean to steal Belinda's thunder, but this one is local for me and I saw an update in the paper.
The 'father' (william hurley) in this case got 6 months in a workhouse, and he will be 'let out' during the day to go to school.
The 'mother' (debra chatman) in this case was sentenced a few days ago to 3 years probation and 20 hours of community service.
Summary of what they did to their 10 year old son:
"Hurley punched the boy and then burned him on his arm and leg with a hot iron.
The boy ran out of the apartment but Chatman grabbed him and brought him back, and Hurley whipped him with an extension cord, police said.
Chatman, who said she had earlier struck her son with a belt, said the boy ran to an oven and climbed inside it as far as he could. The boy told authorities that she then turned on the oven to force him out."
