44 Arrested In Georgia Child Porn Sweep

Operation Restore Hope netted 279 computers and there were 44 arrests made. LE in Georgia maxed out on this one they said. More arrests are expected to come.

Just a warning this is some gruesome reading at the link. LE actually found one child who was in the pornography residing at the home they busted. Kudos for Georgia LE for taking this matter to heart and possibly saving alot of children.

17 year old arrested in Valdosta, Lowndes County porn roundup. Another juvenile was arrested in Cobb County.

GBI Agent Whittaker says “We are only getting 2 percent of what’s out there.”
There could be 10,000 people in Georgia involved in sharing child porn.

I am from Georgia & hope the computers seized today will lead to many more arrests. Lock them up & throw away the keys!

These sickos are among us: neighbors, co-workers, teachers, yadayadayada. Beyond the perversion, some are drawn into it for the money.... big bucks to be made in this "business".

I am from Georgia and I would dearly love to see all of these people thrown in jail and the key permanently destroyed so that they never get out. I also love the suggestion that their pictures be plastered all over the front page of the newspapers. Kudos to all of the agencies involved in this operation and I wish them continued success in the future.

Thanks for posting this. I have to admit that as I drink my coffee each morning and check the news, the very first search I do is "Child Pornography Arrests". I'll never give up hope that after one of these sweeps, I'll get a call from the FBI, "Ms. XXX, we'd like you to identify some photos". Oh, if I only live long enough. NOTHING, NOTHING, would give me greater closure than having my babies' pornographic photos found. It'll happen. I know it will.

I'm always saddened that the sweeps turn up so much garbage but I also know that each discovery brings some closure to a child and family and opens up trial possibilities due to hard evidence.

Another warning about unsecured wireless:

"Sometimes the images are downloaded or shared by using an unsecured wireless network of a neighbor so the residents at the houses searched may not be aware that their Internet connections were used to disseminate child pornography, Keenan said."



Does anyone know how the FBI and other LE determine whether this can be the case before they make an arrest? Is there any way for the experts to tell if the wireless was accessed from the computers within the house or somewhere outside of the house? As much as I want every trader and producer of porn caught, I worry about neighbors. That would be a nightmare. I'm also certain that the real porn addicts use it as an excuse all the time.

Forget that song by Jane's Addiction "Nothing's Shocking". This has even shocked me.

In a 24 hour period as LE watched the file sharing going on for this sweep these people had 45,000 computers going. That's 45,000 seperate computers looking at child pornography! This sickens me.

This link tells some more about the sweep. They have a Savannah guy named Christopher Westendick aged 31 arrested. He's out after posting on his lousy $27,000 bail. It looks like they're all out except Johnny Jordan aged 42 of Rincon. He didn't post on his $11,200 bail.

Iz, I don't know how that works. The legallities I mean. They just can't go in and bust someone where wireless is involved one would think. There most definately has to be a way to trace it because they cught that one guy even after he moved from the neighborhood where he was using the neighbors.

I would assume that if the forensics experts did not find any evidence of child porn and/or any deleted images of child porn on the proposed arreste"s computer then they would know that it was possibly a case of someone nearby using an unsecured wireless network. Just a guess though.

ATLANTA -- Georgia authorities arrested 67 suspects and seized more than 300 computers in the aftermath of a three-month child pornography crackdown.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on Monday that the arrests are the result of the January crackdown, in which search warrants were executed in 35 counties throughout the state.
