IRVINE – Police are asking the public's help in locating a missing 26-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter who apparently left their Irvine home overnight, leaving no clue as to their destination.

Genny Shermantine and her daughter Katherine were reported missing by Genny's husband just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Irvine police Lt. John Hare said.

Police are asking for the public's help in their search for Genny and Katherine Shermantine, who reportedly left their Irvine home Monday night or Tuesday morning, leaving no clue as to their destination.

The husband, who works a night shift, returned home to find that his wife had packed up and moved out overnight, taking their daughter with her, Hare said. He told police that she had not left any indication of where they were going.

Authorities say Shermantine has family in Mexico, but it wasn't clear if she intended to take her child there. Police also believe that Shermantine may have been in San Clemente at some point on Tuesday.

While police say there is no indication that Shermantine or her daughter are in danger, they would still like to reach the mother to learn the circumstances surrounding her departure.

Genny Shermantine is described as a 26-year-old 5'4" 110-pound Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes. Her daughter Katherine is described as a 5-year-old 3'5" 45 pound-Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police are asking anyone with information about Shermantine's location to call Detective James Do at 949-279-4701

IRVINE – Police on Thursday ended their search for a 26-year-old Irvine woman and her 5-year-old daughter after learning they had checked into a women's shelter.

Investigators are still looking into the circumstances that led Genny Shermantine to apparently move out of her Irvine home with her daughter Katherine sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning.
