PaulR I followed this case as well, if only they had stayed with the climber that was found. I've been to Wa and Or, you really need to respect those mountains.

I know, not the conclusion we had hoped for.
I really wish the buddy system would be used.

Oh no! They found her dead!
I've been following this case but not really posting on the thread. Still curious about the Rapp guy. Of course, all suspicion of him comes from the roommate, and we don't know what the situation is between those two.
I hope that Shadow has a loving home... he will grieve just like the humans do. Poor pup.

The body of Kate Huether, 24, of Portland was recovered late Sunday afternoon off the side of Table Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge, four miles north of Bonneville Dam.

JVM just did a bit on this case. She felt there were some unanswered questions, because Katherine was an experienced hiker. JVM also wonders about receipt found on trail. Says she will keep us posted.

Coroner: Trauma of fall down rock face killed hiker
http://www.king5.com/home/Medical-ex...-87659512.html
The video in this article shows the rough terrain and snowy conditions on the trail, and there's a brief interview with her mother at the end. Her mother seems to think this was just a tragic accident.

Sadly, experienced hikers meet sad fates in this region fairly frequently (the fellow who fell into the crater of Mt. St. Helens recently comes to mind). Not to mention that this was not a good time of year to be up in the hills... but her mother makes it sound like she died doing what she loved most, which must be a small consolation.

This photo of the top of the cliff (no graphic content!) was taken by the man who found her body:

Apparently there are lots of scenic lookout trails that branch off of the main trail, like this. Note the crumbly basalt edge.

such beautiful country - I know it's not much consolation but Katherine died doing what she loved to do and amidst the beauty of planet Earth. moo

James Martin shows the rock ledge that caused him to have a "hunch" and led him to search further for missing Gorge hiker Kate Huether.

Beautiful , yet scary to be hiking alone, on that.
