Teen missing from San Rafael boys school might be headed to Santa Cruz

SAN RAFAEL - The Marin County Sheriff's Office and local police agencies are searching for a 13-year-old boy who ran away from a residential school for boys in San Rafael on Feb. 27 and might be headed to Santa Cruz to see his family.

Flora Mae Gordon, who lives in the Paradise Park area of Santa Cruz, said the boy, David V. R. Gordon, is her grandson and that she and her husband have had custody of him for several years.

He was in Santa Cruz recently for a slumber party, she said, adding with obvious concern that she has not heard any news of him since he crawled out the window of St. Vincent's School for Boys in San Rafael with a 15-year-old roommate. That teen has been found, Marin County Sheriff's Sgt. Debra Barry said. He told deputies that Gordon had said he wanted to go to Santa Cruz.

Gordon was last spotted Feb. 28, riding a green and white Strobe BMX bike toward the Golden Gate Bridge, she said. He was wearing a dark-colored shirt, gray sweatshirt and black sweatpants with a white stripe down the side, and he was carrying a black backpack.

He reportedly stole the bike, a helmet, portable radio and night vision glasses from a Toys 'R Us in San Rafael the day he left school, she said.

He had no personal items with him, including various medications needed for health issues, deputies said.

He has no prior history of suicide, they added in a missing person poster.

Santa Cruz teen missing since February turns up in San Bruno

SAN BRUNO - A 13-year-old Santa Cruz boy missing since he ran away from a residential school in San Rafael last month was found alive in San Mateo County on Friday, authorities reported.

David Vernon Reece Gordon and a 12-year-old friend left St. Vincent's School for Boys about 11 a.m. on Feb. 27. For weeks, relatives wondered about Gordon's whereabouts and worried about the teen, who had no history of running away and has health problems - including asthma - that require medication.

"He was found in San Bruno today," Sgt. Pierre Ahuncain of the Marin County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday.
