Australian law enforcement has started solving missing persons and unidentified remains cases using official police access to private genealogy databases, which combined, hold the DNA records of millions of people around the world.

Remains found on Kangaroo Island in 1983 have now been identified.
They are William Henry Hardie who went missing from New South Wales in the 1970's
The remains are the first to be Identified in Australia using FIGG (Forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG) involves uploading a detailed DNA profile to a private genealogy DNA database to see if there are any matches to members of the public)
The second remains to be identified using FIGG were those of Tanya Marie Glover.
