It is, and was, but I remember how very common it used to be to see people hitching in the 70s.

I remember a friend of mine in the 70s saying that she wanted to travel across the US and pick up hitchhikers along the way. I thought that was incredibly dangerous.

Delores Jean Stanton, 21, was doing everything she should have been doing to grow as a person. She moved from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to Gainesville, Florida to attend the Santa Fe Community College. The one thing she likely did very wrong, was to hitchhike to her classes. She was last seen on April 13, 1976. She was born on February 17, 1955, 5'2", 110 pounds, brown hair and eyes, and wearing a multi colored poncho, a blue sweater, jeans, and carrying a reddish brown purse.
