With the constant growth of the internet as a personal soapbox, it's not entirely uncommon for hate and/or revenge sites to crop up now and then. Sometimes, something as simple as a border between two countries is all it takes for a victim to find themselves helpless. With domain ownership information fairly private for the most part, it can be hard to pinpoint and locate where a site originates from. Fortunately, this tip is fairly straight-forward and hassle free.
If you've ever created a website, you probably already know about registering domains. Though the internet is largely unregulated in terms of anonymity, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers keeps track of all domain registrations. Using their ICANN Lookup tool, anyone can type in the name of a website and its domain (for example, websleuths.com) to find which company serves as its registrar.
