Thursday, Oct. 5th:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ 8am CT) - MI – Egypt Covington (27) (June 23, 2017, found shot & killed in her house, Belleville) -*Shandon Ray Groom (24 @ time of crime/27/now 30) arrested & charged (12/22/20), re-charged (3/23/21) & arraigned (4/1/21) with 1 count each of 1st degree premeditated murder, felony murder, 1st degree home invasion & 3 counts of felony firearm. Plead not guilty. Held without bond.
Trial was set to begin on 4/10/23 continued on 7/24/23 continued on 9/11/23 was vacated. Groom plead guilty on 7/14/23. Sentencing hearing on 10/5/23.

4/10/23 Update: Trial did not start. Next pretrial hearing on 4/14/23. 4/14/23 Update: Jailhouse phone calls are expected to be introduced at the trial of two men charged with 1st degree murder in the shooting death of an up-and-coming singer in her home. On Friday, Judge Wanda Evans said she'd allow Moore & Groom to be joined for one trial instead of two, a relief for Covington's family & those who fought to have Michigan State Police handle the case instead of Van Buren Township Police. Next hearing or trial on 7/24/23.
7/20/23 Update: Shandon Ray Groom & Timothy Moore, both of Toledo, had been slated to face a trial this month. But Moore entered his guilty plea Thursday, 7/20/23 & Groom did so on July 14, Wayne County Circuit Court records show. Both are scheduled for sentencing on 10/5/23 before Judge Wanda Evans.

Plead not guilty. Held without bond.

*Shane Lamar Evans (28 @ time of crime/31/now 34) – Plead guilty (4/10/23) to plea deal & will testify against Moore & Groom. Sentenced on 5/4/23 to 15-25 years in prison.
