Gentry is wanted for two homicides, one in Monroe, MI and another in Toledo, OH. He has warrants out for his arrest that have not been satisfied. HIs last known contact were with family and friends through post cards that were postmarked San Diego, CA and Los Angeles, CA. Although he has been on Michigan's Top Ten Most Wanted since the 1983 murders, he has been at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

A man wanted on suspicion of killing his male and female lovers in the Midwest more than 30 years ago may be dressing as a woman and hiding in Los Angeles, a Michigan investigator chasing the cold case said Wednesday.



The trail leading to John Kelly Gentry Jr. went cold after 1983, when he was on the lam and mailed a postcard to his father from Los Angeles, said Monroe County Sheriff's Det. Jeff Smith.


No one has heard from Gentry since, but information pieced together over the years suggests he had adopted his middle name, "Kelly," and once frequented the West Hollywood area, Smith said. Because of the alias, Smith said, there's a chance Gentry has posed as a woman.


But Gentry's current whereabouts are unknown, Smith said, so the LAPD and Michigan authorities are asking for the public to look at a sketch of what Gentry may look like now and see if they recognize him.

He would be about 63 years old, authorities said. He is described as white, 5 feet 7, about 154 pounds with brown eyes and hair. He has a circular burn scar on his left elbow and "LCI" burned into his upper left arm, authorities said.

On June 25, 1983, Pensacola, Florida, emergency personnel responded to a car explosion outside a restaurant that left 37-year-old John Gentry critically injured.

“The injuries to John Gentry were massive: horrific internal injuries,” crime journalist Pat Lalama told “Exhumed: Killer Revealed,” airing Sundays at 7/6c onOxygen. “Pieces of pieces of shrapnel [were)]stuck to his body from head to toe.”

Police inspected Gentry’s car and concluded that sticks of dynamite had been stashed in the trunk and the explosion wasn’t an accident.

“It appears that the car had been rigged with wiring through the tail light,” said Lalama, “so that when the tail lights would go on — boom.”

Investigators said they “knew right then and there was an attempted murder.”

Gentry survived his extensive injuries but was in a coma for several days.

Investigators interviewed his family and close circle, including his girlfriend, Judy Bueonoano. She’d met Gentry in 1983 and embarked on what witnesses called “a whirlwind romance.”
