Newark Penn Station-Bull on the loose on train tracks.

Aw he's a cute little steer!

How did he end up on these tracks???
Some possibilities:
  1. Escape from a slaughterhouse nearby
  2. Escape from a truck during offloading to a slaughterhouse
  3. Escape from some kind of urban ranch
  4. Someone's pet and guard animal that escaped
BTW, livestock hasn't shipped by rail in decades.

Edit: Changed bullets to numbers in list, also to say that #1 is considered the most likely by officials. From the OP's ABC7NY story:
Officials believe the steer escaped from a local slaughterhouse. They estimate he is about 1 years old.

Wouldn't rule out #2, however.

Animals in these situations around NJ and NY often get scooped up by animal sanctuaries, like Farm Sanctuary-wonderful humans. Hopefully that happens, he is beautiful
He is in one. From the ABC7NY link by the OP:
Newark officials said the 800-pound steer was tranquilized before he was taken to Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Sussex County, where they named him Ricardo.

People who wanted a souvenir to remember last week's bizarre scene when a bull was found on NJ Transit train tracks appear to have missed their chance — the plushie doll based on the bovine sold out Thursday.

[...]

On Tuesday, NJ Transit then began selling a $20 stuff animal inspired by Ricardo, with a portion of proceeds going to Skylands for the bull's care. The plushie was available for preorder, but now, all preorders slots have been filled. The transit authority did not confirm whether more plushies will become available to purchase.

Ooooh, they’re available again for pre-order—what a clever and generous idea on the part of NJT! Think it’s too late for me to amend my Christmas list?
