Investigators hope to find new forensic evidence that might solve the 1985 homicide of 24-year-old Terry Dolowy, a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior who disappeared along with her poodle on Valentine's Day.

Body exhumed in 1985 murder

873UFWI, discovered in La Crosse County, Wisconsin on February 19, 1985 is now a closed case per NamUs. No further information is available.

I guess they finally managed to confirm her identity, then.

Here's a good article on Terry Dolowy. LaCrosse is in Vernon County, where Vernon County Jane Doe was found, also in a ditch, but missing her hands, rather than her head, the previous year (1984). Vernon County Jane Doe is still unidentified, but DNA Doe Project are working on her.

So was her body found in La Crosse County or Vernon? They're adjacent, but La Crosse (city) is just a short drive from the Vernon County boarder.

Nvm. I really shouldn't read the la crosse tribune on a mobile... It's skips chunks of text.

So she was found within Vernon Co., just past the border.

Yes, you are correct. LaCrosse is in LaCrosse County (duh!), but I guess she was found in Vernon County.

Great news!

<<The Monroe County District Attorney has filed charges against a Tomah man for the murder of Terry Dolowy of Barre Mills nearly 40 years ago.

Kevin Croninger said that he's charging Michael Raymond Popp with a charge of 1st Degree Murder.

He would have been 21 at the time of Dolowy's murder.

Popp, now 60, lives Tomah and is a truck driver according to Croninger.

He said that DNA evidence found during the autopsy of Dolowy in 1985 was tested and connected to Popp.

Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson said that Popp was arrested on Monday and taken to the Vernon County Jail.>>

'The criminal complaint says investigators determined Popp knew Dolowy and lived short distance away from her and her boyfriend. Popp later admitted that he had an affair with Dolowy that started six months before her death'.

Confused about them having dental information in her Doe listing if they never recovered her head.

She disappeared on February 14, 1985 from her Barre Mills residence. Her body was found in Vernon County on February 18.

Popp was arrested late in September after DNA evidence found on Dolowy's body tied him to her death.

Testimony came from Special Agent Lindsay Lehr with the state's Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation.

She was questioned about the DNA evidence found in Dolowy and Popp's contact with her.

“From the investigation they found that he had a distant cousin that lived on Mohawk Valley Road some time years prior to Terry going missing and that he had visited that residence on Mohawk Valley Road which leads to believing that he had familiarity with that area," Lehr said.
