Police fear Melbourne woman Jeanette Moss may have been murdered

January 21, 2014

A WOMAN whose body was found at a house in inner Melbourne last week may have been murdered, police say.

A neighbour called police after finding 69-year-old Jeanette Moss dead in her Middle Park house about 10.45am last Wednesday.

Police are treating the death as suspicious.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector John Potter said it is likely she was killed between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

A MURDERED grandmother may have let her killer into her apartment, police believe.

Homicide detectives are investigating if 69-year-old Jeanette Moss knew her attacker.

Ms Moss was discovered by a neighbour last Wednesday about 10.30am in her Middle Park apartment on Beaconsfield Parade. Police believe the widower was killed sometime between then and noon on Tuesday.

Anyone who is not in the area, but has information about Ms Moss's death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au

Another one!????

Have you guys got a serial going nuts?

Too many murders of too many low risk victims in Melbourne recently...namely, older women in their own homes.

Chilling. Denyer wasn't that long ago.

Isn't one at least related to online dating?

IT was an daily ritual. On the dot of 5pm, glass of wine by her side, Jeanette Moss would pick up the phone.

It was her way of keeping in touch, a bit of a chat.

She would call anyone she could get hold of from her *"ladies who lunch" set.

And since her husband's death 14 years ago, the 69-year-old grandmother of four never missed a day.

It eased the loneliness of living alone, and since being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis last year - she was given less than five years to live - it was a great way to keep up her spirits.

So when the phone suddenly went quiet, those who counted themselves close friends of Jeanette Moss knew something was wrong.
How a silent phone was the giveaway to Jeanette Moss' friends that something was terribly wrong

Just a few hundred metres from where grandmother Jeanette Moss was found dead inside her bayside home a week ago, family and friends gathered to pay tribute to a "kindred spirit".

Mrs Moss, of Middle Park, was farewelled at a funeral service in Melbourne's south-east on Wednesday afternoon.

More than 350 people attended the service at All Saints Anglican Church in St Kilda before a wake at her local yacht club, where she had been a member for the past 15 years.

Police have spoken with residents of Mrs Moss' apartment building, but have exhausted initial avenues of inquiry with no suspects identified, Inspector Potter said.

Closed circuit television footage gathered around the area has also failed to turn up any leads.

Inspector Potter said Mrs Moss' cause of death had led police to believe she was killed. He confirmed she had sustained injuries, but would not comment further on the circumstances of her death.

Rich socialite going about her business, enjoying her life. Reminds me of the Wales-King case. JMO

We've got -

Kylie Blackwood murdered 1 August 2013 at Pakenham
Madison Murphy West murdered 23 October 2013 also at Pakenham
Shey Webber nearly beaten to death 6 Nov 13 in Warrenwood
Now Jeanette.

All single women, all found dead/near dead in their own homes with no sign of forced entry. No suspects and at least one staged to look like suicide (hung?).

Correct me if I'm inaccurate anywhere but this is starting to look nasty.

Stay safe, Marg. Do you have any other security measures? IMO a barky dog is the best protection but you can never be too safe. It certainly does sound like something awful is going on in Melbourne.

I know - I immediately thought that too! Another blonde low-risk victim in her home.....:scared:

It is alarming that there has been a rash of women being killed mysteriously...

relatively wealthy...

No sign of forced entry...

Low-risk...

This new article reveals that LE have only just found out about the missing jewellery in the last couple of weeks. It also says this, about the likelihood of knowing her killer:

"Det Sen Sgt McIntyre said it is highly likely Ms Moss knew her killer.

He said family members are not suspects at this time.

"She's had an altercation with someone. There's no indication she fought back," he said. Police could not discount it was an armed robbery gone wrong.

But there were other valuable items in the house which were not taken, Det Sen Sgt McIntyre said."
