OH OH - Brittany Stykes, 22, pregnant, Georgetown, 28 Aug 2013

Nobody seems to know.

It worries me because I drive that road sometimes. I was on it Saturday. My kids drive it sometimes, one of them drove it last weekend late at night.

If she wasn't targeted, if it was random, it could have been any of us. If this person is so disturbed and still on the road, it could be any of us. It is scary.

I have read she was headed home, I don't know where from or what road she had been on before she got to where she was found. But SR 68 is the most traveled.

SR 68 comes down a long hill there, several miles sloping, about a mile on a steeper grade. SR 68 is a two lane road, but at the top of the hill it goes to 4 lane. Shortly past where she was found, the road comes to a stop sign in Ripley and makes a turn onto US 52. Travel there is sporadic. In one article LE set up a road block to see if they could find any witnesses. It said they stopped 100 cars, but it didn't say over what time period. I would guess about an hour or two. While the road would be empty at times, it isn't exactly isolated.

At 7:30- 8 pm it would have been full daylight at that time.

The area is very rural, few houses actually near the road between Georgetown and Ripley, one or two businesses one of which is a nursing home.

Ripley and Georgetown are both small towns. Georgetown is the county seat.

In the beginning I thought it was gonna be someone close to her. Its so random and crazy and just doesn't "fit" her.
I hope they find this crazy person soon.

From the local paper regarding the traffic stops that were done last week. The paper only comes out weekly.

While the Sheriff can't reveal too much regarding what information he gathered at the checkpoint, he did say they did get a few new leads.

"We picked up several good points and a couple leads off of the checkpoint so it was very helpful," Wenninger said. "With a case of this magnitude there's someone out there who saw something or it may have jogged their memory. We passed out a lot of flyers and talked to a lot of people and hopefully it generates even more leads in the near future."

"Three separate cars saw the same type of vehicle at the approximate time frame of the homicide leaving that area at a high rate of speed," Wenninger said.

But the BCSO doesn't plan on releasing the details of the car to the public: it may scare off a suspect, but there's also the chance that the driver may not be a suspect at all.

"There were three people who saw a car at an approximate time that evening, but we can't say if there was any connection to the homicide," Wenninger said. "It may not have been anything, it could have been someone speeding home from work or going out that evening. A lot of people are driving fast, there's always people speeding up and down there."

the 15-month-old daughter of Brittany Stykes, 22, was back in the hospital this week to manage the head wound she sustained Aug. 28, the night an unknown gunman - or woman - riddled Brittany Stykes' Jeep with bullets, one of which grazed (the baby) above her forehead.

Pic of the baby at the link. Cute baby, nasty incision in her head.

Link edited by me to remove child's name.

At least still in the news....

"Family's grief as police still have no idea who shot dead pregnant mother, 22, and injured her daughter as they drove home 6 weeks ago
Married mother-of-one Brittany Stykes was found dead in her Jeep in August after a passerby saw her crashed car off a highway
She was four months pregnant and the unborn child also died
Her 14-month-old daughter Aubree was hit in the head with a bullet but survived and continues to undergo surgeries
Police do not know where the bullets came from or who fired them"

Watching the case locally. 3 people refused to talk to LE investigators and so they were subpoena'd before a grand jury. Of those three who were subpoena'd, one didn't show up for the grand jury, two others did show up and one of those two was Shane Styke's (husband's) ex girlfriend.

Most recently, Moore has been focused on trying to force three reluctant people to answer questions through grand jury subpoenas, including one of Shane Stykes' ex-girlfriends.

The identity of the other two witnesses has not been released, including one who ignored the subpoena and failed to show up to court. Moore said he's working to compel that person to be brought in for questioning, calling it "the biggest key we have right now."

Hmmmm....... I hadn't seen this one before. It makes it sound like maybe the ex gf has consulted a lawyer? Maybe?

Samantha Grubbs says she had been advised earlier not to talk voluntarily to police.

Why would an ex gf/baby mama need to consult an attorney? Why would she be advised not to talk with authorities? She is also the person who claims that Brittany met up with some wrong people through her husband (and the parents strongly deny this.)

The father of Aubree now will not let Brittany's parent see the baby. They are now suing him. The custody hearing will be Dec 30, 2013. It is getting heated.

Now for the good news, the case is not cold!
Detective Buddy Moore says he received new information he thinks could lead them to the persons involved.

The information matches information the department received back in August. Moore says the source of the information strengthens its credibility. Moore says the murder does not appear random and it doesn't look like road rage.

Ok this is getting interesting.

Ex-gf of the hubby says she got "involved with the wrong people through her husband." She doesn't want to talk to investigators and someone else doesn't even show up for grand jury. And now hubby reportedly doesn't want to be around "negative" people..... his dearly departed wife's parents.

I think LE knows what happened by now. I think they are just working to prove it. I am seeing some hints in the media too of who suspicions might fall on.
