Allison had fallen pregnant. He will tell you she became insular, didn't want to socialise to the same extent #badenclay

He took on more of a role looking after their daughter - Mr Byrne #badenclay

11.30am: Gerard Baden-Clay stood in the dock as he was asked if he would adduce evidence in his defence.

Barrister Michael Byrne QC, for the accused, said his client would give evidence.

“Members of the jury, Gerard Baden-Clay will get into the witness box,” he said.

“As you’ve heard members of the jury, the defence is going to give evidence. Critically and importantly Gerard Baden-Clay is going to give evidence. He will give that evidence to you under oath and he will say a number of things.

Perhaps at the forefront of what he will tell you is that he did not kill his wife. He will tell you that he did not leave his young girls alone in the house at Brookfield whilst he drove out to Kholo Creek on any occasion on the 19th or 20th of April, 2012.

“He will tell you that he certainly did not transport or carry his wife’s body down the muddy slope next to the Kholo Creek Bridge and he did not place it in the water at the bottom of that slope.

“He did not drive back from Kholo Creek having walked through the mud and he did not because there was nothing in fact, to clean up at the house in the surrounds of the house or in the car.

“Gerard Baden-Clay will tell you all of those things and will give you details of what did occur on those days, the 18th, 19th and 20th of April, 2012.

Avoidance and or deflection.
These are all focused away from the house - the scene of the crime.

But will he tell what happened at the house where the focus of the investigation for the murder took place?

Byrne says Gerard took a trip with his brother but had to cut it short to come home for Allison. Says there was no diagnosis at this point.

Byrne: Whatever she had seemed to be getting worse. #badenclay

I think that Allison was a woman of exceptional character and self-control.

She had every reason to become extremely distressed and angry, but for the sake of her marriage and her children she was able to maintain control of her emotions. This is very rare.

She seems to have made a huge effort to work on the marriage, and to discuss issues reasonably and fairly.

Her husband's infidelity and criticism was eroding her own confidence (as we know from her diary entries) but still she kept trying.

A narcissist has a way of making the victim feel that all the problems are their fault.

She may also have had some instinctive knowledge that it was necessary to stay non-confrontational for her own safety and survival. I don't know.

Thank you for putting my thoughts into words.

Gerard was working at home, Allison would have panic attacks #badenclay

Sheeeez why not tell his entire life story.

"Now Baden powell...well you see he was my great grandfather"

Why on earth did he not give all this information to the detectives 2 years ago? Would have saved them all their trouble, and saved himself from jail for 2 years!

Sarah Elks ‏@sarahelks 42s

Gerard #badenclay will tell the jury Allison was dependent on him in 2002, would have panic attacks, pass out, when he was away.

Sarah Elks ‏@sarahelks 37s

Gerard #badenclay will describe how honeymoon to South America turned bad when Allison took anti-malarial drugs causing "severe mood swings"

Maybe that's when she started seeing what he was really like.

Byrne says Allison would faint during panic attacks. She had one while driving. She passed out once she'd pulled the car over. #badenclay

Byrne says they were a private couple and wouldn't talk about Allison's condition "whatever it was". #badenclay

Because it took him two years in the clink to think it all up

Toxicologist will talk about serotonin syndrome, which can result in confusion, agitation and delirium #badenclay

Must have been all those Es she popped at the rave she went to after the hairdressers...

...that magically vanished from her system leaving only a normal therapeutic level of Zoloft to be found at autopsy

:banghead:
I've had Serotonin Syndrom. Ended up in hospital from self-harm. However this developed over a period of time, after my medication had been increased. It took a bit of time, and people around me had called the ambulance with concern.

Byrne says Allison had a miscarriage at the end of 2002 which didn't assist her depression and ongoing panic attacks. #badenclay
