i hereby volunteer to give him an unbiased review of the facts

and then a quick guilty decision from the star chamber with a sentence of life in front of the firing squad....

I can bring some untainted jurors who have never heard of this case-SCOUTS HONOUR!!
Olli, Makara, poss, breaking, unfolding, Doc, Ali we need five others. No payment required. :happydance:

Finally caught up with today's posts! Regarding the news about the appeal - I'm shocked, as I felt the judge seemed to be bending over backwards to make his comments and instructions to the jury as fair as possible. For a while there I was even thinking that he was being overly cautious about the jury's interpretation of the evidence, and mentioned a not guilty verdict often enough to make me think he was warning them off or something.

As far as TM's supposed payment for her appearance on 60 Minutes goes - I think the worst thing is that the show (a "major event", no less) was being advertised within what seemed like minutes of the verdict being announced. Callous cashing-in by all parties (TM and 60 Minutes itself) if you ask me. I wonder if the Dickies were invited to be on the show at any time - the actual victim's family having their voices heard and earning money for the girls at the same time? It's a horrible world we live in where the trashier, salacious stories always get the air time.
I could actually imagine a respectful piece being done for a show like Australian Story - if the ABC is still recieving enough funding for that programme any more.

Early socialisation of sonny jim:
"Gabbinbar was a new school with teaching areas designed for innovative practices such as open-area teaching and with students drawn from a population which was more professionally oriented and with some students whose histories in their former schools suggested behavioural or social or psychological problems. Added to this was a school Principal who was passionate in his educational beliefs but who challenged more conservative principals less willing to be innovators." (Ken Imison)

I mention this as I was there too. He may have had some behavioural problem. School was free range. I completely understood Lord of the Flies what I read it after only 6 months at this school.

I got the hell out of there. G was there for years.

That's probably a little unfair. I don't think Gabbinbar State School is or was the breeding ground for narcissistic wife murderers. Your quote comes from page 4 of REPORT OF THE REVIEW OF GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION IN QUEENSLAND STATE SCHOOLS TOWARDS 2010 and was discussing a program the school initiated for gifted children in 1975, about the year GBC would have started there. I had issues with the school many years later because their enrolment policy of taking some 'difficult' children combined with fairly informal combined classes became a bit chaotic. We moved on but my children are, in my opinion, well balanced adult citizens.

GBC also went through Toowoomba Grammar School and the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education which became the University of Southern Queensland.

Who knows how a child grows into a murderer but its probably not because of their parents choice of primary school.

I've always wondered about the announcement of the affair to the office and school principal etc, like it was him (in his mind) falling on his sword and 'doing the right thing' once it was out in the open...Could you imagine having a boss sit you down and explain something to you like that? Fairly certain for most people it would fall into the 'lets never speak of this again' category.

I see it as him initiating the topic, trying to take ownership of the conversation and be seen as being 'proactive'.
-to avoid answering tricky questions later on ( he was 'proactive',therefore 'innocent',already had addressed shaving cuts to 'everyone' at the house, acknowledging their suspicions because he was 'aware')
- Coming out about affairs to employees and then lecturing them about their own relationships is G trying to gain favor and or intimidate staff that were less adventurous.
It is all about him and it is really self centered.
Classic psycho narcissist behavior
How did he become this way?
Anyone?

Signs of possible problems with personality, judgement and empathy seem to be emerging slowly IMO.
Question: Is this socially appropriate behaviour? Whom did it hurt? Is it treating your employees as a 'captive' audience? Imposing one's personal problems upon others in the workplace? Is it exploiting the employer/employee relationship? Was there any thought that it might be embarassing/uncomfortable for others? Did the employees have a choice? Did the school principal need to know? Did it place the principal in a difficult situation? Did it undermine Allison? etc or Was it just plain self-serving? aimed at saving own reputation/position within the community?
My opinion only.

I think same as wanting to testify... Kind of a "Hey look at me I'm going to be accused of this bad thing but I'm a standup genuine guy because I'm approaching you with what I have to say about it so I'm really a good guy. You believe me now right."

Why weren't the jury allowed to hear about her brain injury and other injuries? If it's because as implied a "lay person" can't assess those themselves then that's really wrong. Gives someone the thought they could kill someone in a way a layperson can't assess so the evidence gets thrown out. There's going to be things not everyone gets but if experts want to tell them their findings why can't they hear it from them? Those details made sense to me re if I'd heard them.

I think the grounds of appeal are weak too and that the judge said that generally about all evidence and didn't need to get specific.

Police investigate approaches to Gerard Baden-Clay jurors

During the 21-day high profile trial, jurors were approached by a television journalist and, separately, by a man dressed in red who asked for a betting tip about the upcoming verdict.

Both approaches were *rebuffed by the jurors and swiftly reported to trial judge John Byrne.

Police are also investigating a post on the Facebook page “Justice for Allison Baden-Clay” by someone purporting to be a juror, asking for public patience while the jury deliberated.

Oh dear. I hope nothing untoward happened that would threaten the verdict.

Chances are that the post on the Justice page was a troll IMO. Can't see a juror reading the insane rubbish over there JMO.

I'd like to know if it's normal for a newly convicted prisoner to be able to have visits 2 days in a row from family ?
GBC parents visited yesterday afternoon and as reported also today. If this is not normal then why is GBC being given special treatment ?
As far as I am concerned, even though the case is 'high profile' he should be treated exactly the same as any other prisoner. Has his friend Mr Flegg pulled some strings for the senior BC's ?

Alioop do you know if this is normal ?

I read in one of the media reports that this was actually being investigated by the police.

a real estate publicity blog entitled Mr Mum!

Crown prosecutor Todd Fuller tried to use the blog to discredit testimony Baden-Clay gave during his murder trial about his wife's mental health impairing her function.

"He's made some statements with respect to his wife's ability to cope, how he was involved in the household," he said.

Defence barrister Michael Byrne said the blog entry described one week in the life of the family, and Allison's state of poor mental health was not "a constant state of inability or incapacity, it was a fluctuating state of affairs which went up and down".

Oh FFS how did the defence win that. The content of the blog clearly indicated he hadn't been doing the "mum" role much if at all before because he was trying his best and failing to be her. It was written after they'd had kids and applies to a period after his testimony that right from the start he was having to do that work. It shows lies and that she was more capable than he was saying. The doctors said she got better from there not worse.

If a juror actually did that I'd agree to a new trial myself .. Those FB pages are nothing but inflammatory nonsense appealing to the lowest common denominator IMO.

I'm more than happy for the police to investigate it because I'm 99.9% sure it wouldn't be a juror. Just someone with time on their hands and perhaps even a connection to the BC's wanting to cause trouble. Who knows maybe they thought they were helping. I think they might be in for a surprise when the police come knocking at their door. It's very easy for them ( the police ) to trace who it was and I'd be surprised if they haven't been spoken to already.
