#ARealManSaysNo - take a photo and take a stand!
In the lead up to Sydneys White Ribbon Walk on Tuesday 25 November 2014, Randwick City Council and NSW Police Force are joining forces and asking every father and son in Sydney to join the #ARealManSayNo campaign, take a photo and take a stand, to stop violence against women.
Held on national White Ribbon Day, the annual walk aims to unite men in their stance to stop violence against women and this year organisers are taking it one step further with the launch of the #ARealManSayNo social media campaign.
Sydneys fathers and sons are encouraged to show their support for the worthy cause by taking their photo together and sharing it on social media using the hashtag #ARealManSayNo.
Randwick Mayor Ted Seng urged the community to get involved in the campaign and support this significant cause.
Sydneys White Ribbon Walk and our #ARealManSayNo campaign aims to reverse this pattern of violence against women, and support White Ribbon Australia on this important day the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, he said.
Eastern Beaches Local Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate, said police attend more domestic and family violence incidents than any other crime.
Domestic violence accounts for 40 per cent of all police work in NSW and we see firsthand the impact and harm upon individuals, families and children, Det Supt Dengate said.
White Ribbon acknowledges that an overwhelming majority of victims of domestic violence are women and we welcome all campaigns that call to end violence of any kind, Det Supt Dengate said.
It is the fourth year that Council and the Police have come together to host the White Ribbon Walk where everyone can take a stand against domestic violence by joining the walk on Tuesday 25 November 2014.
The walk will start at 7.15am at High Cross Park in Randwick and proceed to Coogee Beach where a mass oath ceremony at Grant Reserve will take place. Led by the Mayor of Randwick Councillor Ted Seng and NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, participants of Sydneys White Ribbon Walk will vow:
Never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
