Why is so much being left just hanging in the tweets at least? And not showing up in the articles? LeClair asks the officer today if he knew about a plane ticket to Vancouver in JL's name. Probably. But my first thought was that LM was trying to make it look like JL took off for Vancouver so no one would know he was dead. Not a good confusing thought if the jurors are thinking like me at all.

I thought maybe he was trying to imply 'Look, JL was still alive later on just like my client said, and he was phoning Vancouver to arrange his vacation.
'And that's why the Crown said 'but wasn't JL's phone found at JL's apartment? so it couldn't have been him making the calls. He was dead earlier than LM said'.

Also, LM said that he and JL talked about Vancouver and he thinks maybe that's why he posted the body parts there.

2010 was a busy year for LM. He was possibly still travelling with the 70yr old Toronto man at the beginning of the year, he was trying out for a documentary in Toronto at some point, he was in Paris where he was raped and had his money stolen and then he came back to Toronto and made the first cat video.

I believe that is a good assessment Rayemonde. LM certainly has a long history of creating controversy about himself then basking in the infamy that it brings him. I'm not buying the phsycosis or schyzo arguments. This guy was just a lousy human from the get go. Lazy, awkward, fascinated by serial killers, he went through life, contributing absolutely nothing positive to society. He made money in the easiest way possible, by selling himself and the only thing he strived for was fame, although he really had no talent or skill to achieve it. So typically he took the easiest route possible.

Magnotta had previously told a defence psychiatrist he and Lin made calls to Vancouver the night before the murder because Lin planned to travel there.

Defence lawyer Luc Leclair didn't explain why he had Montreal Det.-Sgt. Antonio Paradiso read out the phone logs.

Records show a 19-second call from Lin's phone at 1:48 a.m. on May 25, 2012, Paradiso testified.

That's four hours, 16 minutes after Lin was last seen alive, on surveillance video, as Magnotta let the Chinese student into Magnotta's Montreal apartment.

It wasn't immediately clear why defence lawyer Luc Leclair presented the evidence.

A defence psychiatrist's report says Lin and Magnotta discussed Vancouver just prior to the killing.

Magnotta mailed one of Lin's hands and a foot to Vancouver schools.

Magnotta claims he killed Lin under pressure from a man named "Manny," who once lived in Vancouver, the doctor's report says. Magnotta says he's not sure if Manny is a real person.

So it's not just me then. No one in that courtroom seemed to understand why LeClair presented that evidence.

I wasn't aware that LM had claimed he and JL made those calls. And I think we know that JL was likely dead at that time. So he was once again making up stories to cover the discovery. There was no other evidence from anyone who knew JL that he was planning a trip to Vancouver. He was still in contact with his "ex" right up to the day he died and never said a word about it to him.

So what was his purpose in calling hotels in Vancouver? And what happened to the information about a plane ticket in JL's name?

Was he going to attempt to travel within Canada as JL (no passport required) to make it look like JL had flown to Vancouver?

Did he really think that no one would figure out who the body parts belonged to? Didn't he try to eliminate finger tips? For someone who follows so much crime and gore he must know about DNA?

And where was JL's phone found? Or was it found at all?

The Vancouver connection is what got me so interested in this whole thing.

I am a Vancouverite and years ago back in around 2004-6 I use to read the craigslist rants and raves at work (it was totally entertaining) and for a while it was unbelievably filled with posts about Luka, like a couple dozen a day for months; people posting about what an idiot/fake/scammer he was and to avoid him all costs and then some supporters stating they were all just haters and jealous and lying about him. So, when this all broke I remembered the name and then the body parts were mailed here so I was totally wondering the same. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with all the **** he stirred up way back when.

The two places they were mailed to are both prestigious places (St. George’s is a private boy’s school for the very wealthy and False Creek Elementary is not as wealthy but still a very nice and rich neighbourhood) maybe he was trying to get back at some wealthy client?? I don’t know but I would like to.

This is the first mention of Vancouver so I am hoping that something comes out of it because I think there is more to it than JL stating a lot of Asians lived here.

From the link - LM filmed a *advertiser censored* (either in 2003 or 2005) called Street Bait: Luka. Street Bait had offices in Vancouver at the time.

According to Vancouver journalist Jeremy Hainsworth, Streetbait Films generally included a guy and woman who would lure a supposedly straight guy to some cheap apartment.
"These things were just cheaply produced little *advertiser censored* shorts, supposedly to titillate this sort of fantasy that exists in the gay community about getting a straight guy," he told CKWX News 1130 in Vancouver.
Hainsworth adds that the production had a Vancouver office and that one film featuring Magnotta looks like it may have been shot in Vancouver's West End.

And when LM filed for bankruptcy in 2007 he owed $6,882 to an auto-leasing company in Vancouver.

Magnotta's list of debts of about $17,000 includes his largest outstanding debt being $6,882 owed to an auto-leasing company in Burnaby.
According to PostMedia News, Magnotta's other debts included the following:
* $800 to the City of Toronto for parking tickets.
* $500 owed to Bally's Total Fitness in Scarborough.
* $200 for unpaid toll charges on Highway 407.
* $1,400 in cellphone bills from Rogers and Bell Mobility.
* $2,500 on back rent for an apartment in Toronto's Mount Pleasant area.

Sooooo... chit chat here: Today I changed my avatar pic and profile pic (or something like that). Refreshed the page and suddenly all I could do was to post a "thanks". While that is always fine (and I did so!), I went past several posts I would have loved to have commented on.

So my 50 cents re. some of the posts: Regarding possible substance abuse by LM. I had noticed in several of his personal pictures - even from his latest apartment (on the only, small wooden dinner table in the room, more like a café table really) - I spotted a small, brown, slim glass vial on the table. You know the kind, usually found in pharmacies, with a sturdy black screw-on cap from hard, matte plastic or Bakelite or the like. Small brown vials of that kind is used off-market for everything from Poppers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppers) to Cocaine powder or Crack Cocaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_cocaine), regular Amphetamines, to Methamphetamines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine) in either powder or rock form. I have seen them used for Ketamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketamine#Recreational_use) in both liquid and powder forms as well. They are handy for going out partying, they fit in a shirt or pants pocket, keeping the drug dry (or just tightly enough closed) and stable. They are also discreet... as they could contain anything from Menthol crystals, to an aromatic oil, or... drugs.

Since this case has been running for a while - and I noticed the pics/vials back when the case even broke here on WS, I don't have any links as of now. But I am confident they can be found, backtracking into previous threads. Sorry guys and gals! Some homework for the interested ;-)

I have one in my close family who were using, some years ago. I know the behavior and the signs, and I have counselled on the topic in my line of work. I am convinced LM has used drugs, to a far wider extent than he has let on. Not to validate ANY of his actions... to the contrary. Drug (ab)users are very, very familiar with lies and deception and often susceptible to paranoia and delusions. Pair that with a Histrionic Personality Disorder... and well.
IMO you get someone close to what LM is.

Hi Dane, glad you found us again! :seeya: I think I know those little vials that you mean, I've seen places selling Poppers in them. I believe that some gay men use Poppers before sex? Could be related to LM's work as an escort. I didn't know that people kept other drugs in them though... interesting... :thinking:

Shock value, more press, more outrage. He was looking to make a big splash to make sure people knew/talked about him (I think he wanted the notoriety/attention that Bernardo/Homolka got) and what better way than to involve the PM (get the CSIS people & possibly take it to an international level - a threat to the PM could do that) and schools (get the press/media). JMHO
