But no one would have worried about her phone being turned off if they thought she was on a 5 hr flight. No one would have been concerned until about 8 pm Pacific time. Then the fiance' would have begun texting and calling her. But if the phone was off it would have been a dead end. That was plenty of time for the perp to dump evidence and get away.
Yes, it's quite odd, isn't it? I mean when you think about it, the text to mom would, as was said earlier, appease mom and mom would not really expect to hear from her for 5 hours at least. But the text to Amber is downright odd. More logical would be a text saying, "Heading to the airport." and then drop the bomb that you aren't leaving that night after all, but send it maybe an hour before your plane is supposed to land -- that way, you've bought time AND been kind enough to not make your fiancee drive over and wait around the airport. But then again, like I said before, this may not have been a time of logical thinking.
That is, if the texts were sent by Katelin.
But honestly, if they were sent by someone else, then it is even more odd, in my opinion. I don't think a stranger would bother. I mean if she was dropped off by stepdad, then the abduction and texting would have transpired fairly quickly. If this person saw her going around with her suitcase, they would know she was travelling and would probably figure they had flight time bought already. I really don't think their first thought after subduing her is "I better get her phone out of her pocket, scroll around her texts, and try to figure out which loved one needs to hear from her! Must be these last two people on her text feed!" (Anyway, if someone did that to me, they'd be texting a co-worker and my electrician! LOL)
If it were a person she knew, again I think they would not have sent what was basically an alarm to the fiancee. I think they would have simply sent a "See you soon!" text and let her wait forever at the airport if need be.
That's why I'm leaning toward Katelin sending those texts.
