Why was Williams texting Millard about WSIB? Was someone claiming workman's compensation at Millardair?

She was probably preparing the monthly submission.

I'm trying to make some sense out of her testimony. My guess is that she prepared payroll tax submissions and employer health tax (EHT) but there was an accountant that prepared the income tax.

Hmmm but wouldn't you think she should know this already from past years and experience? Do you suspect DM knew more than her in this area? I think I would have trusted MA's accountant over DM TBH. Of course unless there was some sketchy going on. ;) MOO.

As she testified, she was responsible for recording the payroll and related (WSIB) expenses. DM would still need to sign cheques, etc. as she did not have authority to do so. Her questions to DM about WSIB would be to find out whether he had actually paid it or not.

Just trying to get caught up here and I must say my head is spinning a little. Does anyone have a clear understanding as to what the crown was hoping to pull out of this testimony? I keep reminding myself that these are small pieces of a big puzzle being carefully laid out.

I don't know my company's premium off the top of my head and I enter the payment info in our accounting system and write the cheque. The amount does vary from month to month.

I think they were trying to show money was tight and did not have the money to by the truck. As well the purpose of getting the truck for the race

...or if he wanted her to cut the cheque?

But I thought, and please correct me if I'm wrong, DM's mother took over the running of the company when DM was incarcerated. Seems to me that if this is the case, LW had NO need to be visiting DM in prison for anything work related. MOO

I am curious how making it seem DM could afford the truck helps defense? To me it makes him seem MORE depraved IF he had the funds but simply chose to steal the truck.

Based on the Crown's questions my suspicion is at least a couple of things. First, they wanted her provide testimony supporting the idea that DM's finances were strained. Second, they wanted her to talk about the incinerator invoice and whether she questioned DM's reason for buying it. Her answers were vague at best and not very useful.

Then, when the defense questioned her, she agreed with just about everything they asked. Mainly that she wasn't really qualified to say anything about the finances and that just about everything she previously told to the police was just a "guess" based on a poor memory.

This is one of the few portions of her testimony that appears to have been quite lucid unlike many other things that she presented in manner difficult to difficult to comprehend for the people listening.
I am reminded of DM's letter to CN that was confiscated by police when they searched her bedroom. If you recall, DM wanted his girlfriend to influence someone who was to be a witness for the Crown and he said to CN "you know what to tell him to say". It appears that he wanted CN to coach a witness to muddle his testimony.
So that leads me to ponder on the 6 visits of LW to DM....did he personally coach her to do something similar when she got on the stand. LW recalled that she had visited DM in detention 5 or 6 times without explaining the reason for her visit.

LW also testified that DM wanted to go back and do the Baja race again. This, IMO, may be the big take away from her testimony; that and the fact that finances were strained.

Does anyone remember the ex-girlfriend of Michael Rafferty? She came in to testify and said something about working as an escort and giving MR the money she earned. What she said was totally unrelated to the questions asked of her. She left the courthouse that day with a grin on her face and we were all "wtf just happened?".

LW did the same thing today. I'm certainly not saying she's an escort or anything, but the whole scenario seemed very similar to me.

Has the repayment of the $3.7 million loan been brought up yet?

What assets secured the loan?

I know, eh? It would be one thing if there were just flimsy evidence against DM and a real possibility that someone else had committed this crime - it would be good for DM's defense to show no motive.
In this case, the evidence against DM is so overwhelming that all this defense is doing is exactly what you said - showing us just how sick DM is.
IMO

I guess Williams wasn't on the do-not contact list but should have been. JMO

Did she work out of the Hanger, with SS, while doing her 10hrs per month? One on the do not contact list, one not!!!!

Well her husband is dealing with NAPA for some reason??? Getting car parts for a plane hangar. Or was the IT guy just there to answer the phone as an acting secretary if no one else was there? How much IT work needed to be done anyway? The website was pretty minimal IIRC, did the computers crash regularly or something? JMO

Agreed. I wondered the same thing. It seems suspicious that she would visit DM in jail instead of dealing with MB for business matters.

[SS was still being paid because he was working to sell off DM's toys from the hangar. He worked right up into 2015 and then the hangar was sold.
Ha.....DM did not to have contact directly with SS. LM could prepare the cheques and have DM sign them when she happened to go for a visit ....I'm just thinking.

The tangled web goes on and on and on and on]

I believe mb took over the business after dm was in jail

Another vague area that left everybody with more questions. It was mentioned that the husband did installation type work: security cameras, the fob systems on doorways, etc.

SS currently has a camero for sale on a collector car website....his message to potential buyers

No Lowball offers please
No test pilots

Except I think we saw the opposite today. This witness seems to have claimed on the stand that she remembers now, 3 years later, that the information she gave LE 3 years ago was incorrect due to lack of memory back then, 4 days after the arrest.

IOW...she wasn't there to support her own testimony, given 4 days after the arrest when her memory should have been clear, and help out the Crown's case at all...which seems to have been a surprise to them.
