Rankin County officials are conducting a large scale search for a missing man.

In a press conference Sunday Rankin County Undersheriff Raymond Duke said 27-year Joseph Skylar Burnley of Florence was reported missing Saturday.

Reportedly he went with a friend to find the friend's stolen car. While searching, he apparently went missing, though there are concerns about statements from the friend and the friend's wife. Sounds like there's more to it than what is being told.

Sunday evening the Rankin County Sheriff's Department suspended the search for Joseph Skylar Burnley.

Authorities said search teams were confident Burnley is no longer in the wooded area off of Rankin Road.

“We have talked to husband and wife,” a Rankin County Undersheriff said. “I don't want to reveal their names right now. We have talked to them in-depth (and) there are some discrepancies and concern in their statements. At this point, we are treating (Burnley) as missing possibly against his will."

Family members said Burnley takes care of his 90-year-old grandmother in Florence and would never leave her unattended for days at a time.

They executed a search warrant on the home of the two people who were last with him, searching for cell phones. They ended up arresting them on drug charges.

Apparently they waited 15 hours after he "went missing" to call. There is way more to this than him just vanishing.

Rankin County investigators have released a surveillance photo of Sky Burnley in an effort to establish a time frame of his disappearance.

Surveillance cameras captured video of Burnley at a gas station on Greenfield Road at the Pearl/Brandon line, investigators said. In the photo, Burnley is wearing a cap, a yellow shirt and blue shorts.

On Friday investigators recovered the missing cell phone of Travis Brewer and officials say this could be a major break in the case of missing Rankin County man, Skyler Burnley.

The phone appeared to have been thrown from the suspect's truck. They're getting a search warrant for the phone and hoping it will be repairable so the data can be reviewed.

A key piece of evidence was found in the search for Skyler Burnley, who has been missing since June 3.

But the question remains: Is this a missing persons case or potential murder investigation?

Police say a third person is now under arrest. Matthew McCoy has been charged with vehicle theft.

Cadaver dogs are now being brought in to search the same wooded area where Burnley was last seen.

I'm not sure yet what type of drugs, but this helps answer your other questions.

Under-sheriff Raymond Duke said Travis Brewer and Amanda Morris are in custody for misdemeanor drug charges. He said investigators went to serve a search warrant home on Cedar Brook Drive in Pearl on Sunday. Authorities found drug paraphernalia.
