They must have been tourist and not familiar with lakes/alligators.All Floridians know to stay away from lakes at night.

Demings: haven't had reports of gators in the lake before. FWC and @OrangeCoSheriff investigating it all right now. #Disney

I wonder if there were witnesses to this. NOT that I'm questioning the parents or reports, just curious if anyone saw something that could help.

ETA: Never mind, saw reports that their wasn't

The signs say No Swimming, but I don't know if they mention alligators.

I was wondering this as well, but also assumed that there was security video - seems like Disney would have every inch surveilled.

edit to add this was in response to blue22

Not to lessen the horror for this family but I wonder if Disney will eradicate all the gators in the lake after this? That poor father and mother witnessing this.

If there is a "No Swimming" sign, why is there a lifeguard? Is there a pool near by?

Demings: We hope to recover the child before daylight. Father being assisted by victim's advocates. #Disney

I hope that nightmare did not happen. I wouldn't want to live anymore if I lived through that :(

I read earlier that the mom was holding the child's hand and that the father wrestled the gator, but we'll have to wait for the press conference. Can't find the tweet I'd read, possibly deleted? Having trouble finding it again. Please delete mods if against TOS. Thanks.

I hate to ask but would an alligator actually leave anything behind to find?

I heard the sheriff say the father did try to get the boy from the alligators mouth.

I guess I am coming at it from an Australian perspective. We stay right out the way of crocs. They terrify me.

Yeah like avoiding Far North Queensland and the Northern Territory altogether!!!
