GUILTY CA - Killer targeting the homeless (3 dead, 2 hurt), San Diego, July 2016 *Arrest*

The 2010 letter was two pages. I'd like to read the whole thing. The other News8 report said he he was seen standing over his friend who was on fire watching him burn. He said he tried to put it out by pouring orange juice on the flames.

Anthony Alexander Padgett, 36, admitted lighting a sleeping man on fire in a supermarket parking lot in January 2010 in the suburb of National City. He blamed the influence of drugs -- saying he was "super stoned and intoxicated plus using my prescribed medications" -- and that he only intended to scare the victim, whom he knew.

"My intention ... was that he see the fire burning next to him and wake up and be angry at me, thus awakening himself from his nap. I did not hurt him purposely or willingly. I was negligent and made the mistake of walking a few feet away from him and started thinking + looking at something else for a few seconds!"

In a two-page handwritten note to the judge, he calls himself a "homeless citizen," asks Jesus to forgive his sins and expresses remorse for the victim, saying, "I'll never be so stupid again."

I wonder what prescribed medications he was taking? Could be he's bi-polar or schizophrenic. His excuse for burning his friend is bizarre, to say the least. He seems to be a real sadist, getting kicks out of setting people on fire.

I thought I heard a part of the letter where he said something about a sick compulsion, like what I'd term as a malignant OCD Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I know I agree, it's sadistic to be fascinated watching human beings burn to death.

He really applied himself learning to play guitar and sing the blues. For awhile there, he seemed to be really trying to do good, but there's something murderously evil inside him. Father issues?
Resentments? What's really puzzling was he was homeless himself at times. In fact, I believe he even complained about police harassing homeless in that 2010 letter to the judge. I guess he felt a thrill and power picking on the most vulnerable people.

Here's some more about his 2010 crime:

Prosecutors said witnesses to the Jan. 6, 2010, incident watched Padgett pour a fluid on Moreno while he was sleeping and then saw Moreno catch fire. They said Padgett stood by and watched the victim burn, making no attempt to help him, according to court documents.

The witnesses yelled at Padgett, who then started putting the fire out with his foot, according to court documents. When police arrived, he gave three separate stories to officers before eventually admitting he set Moreno ablaze, the documents read.

and

He said the witnesses were passing by on a bike when they spotted Padgett dousing Moreno with the fluid.

“They thought he was urinating on him..." the sergeant said. "It turns out he was dousing him with alcohol. [Padgett] was blasé about it.”

Though Giaime said there appeared to be no motive, he felt Padgett’s actions were “up close and personal and sadistic.”

“You know when you light somebody on fire they’re going to burn, and it’s not going to be quick,” he said.

Giaime said the Chula Vista Police Department is looking back at some older cases to make sure he’s not a suspect in any other homicides.

Many homeless people have some income, just not enough to pay for housing. At least that's often the case around New England.

That's true here, too. I lived in my car for a while...thank God I had a car! It was terrifying and exhausting...and strangely, very expensive.

Here's the VIDEO I first heard on the news about the letter Padgett wrote to the judge in 2010 when he set his friend on fire.

Oops, sorry, I guess he didn't say he had a compulsion in his 2010 letter to the judge.

Here's what he did say--
I have immoral habits using cannabis and alcohol in excess lately...

Padgett also wrote in his two page letter to the judge --
My impression of cops is that they are not friendly towards homeless and they're always taking my weed. I always lie to them. I didn't think they'd understand the truth, so I made up a story.

Dionicio Derek Vahidy, 23, died in a hospital four days after he was found in grave condition in the 700 block of Kettner Boulevard, San Diego police said. About 5 a.m. Wednesday, a towel Vahidy was sleeping under was doused with a flammable liquid and set ablaze, according to police.

About 8 a.m. on July 3, Padgett allegedly killed Angelo De Nardo, 53, of San Diego and set his body on fire under the Claremont Drive exit overpass next to northbound Interstate 5 , according to police. An autopsy determined that De Nardo had been killed before being set ablaze.

Shortly before 5 a.m. on Independence Day, transient Manuel Mason, 61, was found bleeding from wounds to his upper body near the Valley View Casino Center in the Midway district. He remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Less than 90 minutes after the assault on Mason was reported, 41-year- old drifter Shawn Longley was discovered dead at a park on Bacon Street in Ocean Beach.

UPDATES IN RED

It takes me awhile to fully grasp all the details. I didn't realize these were happening in the early mornings.

#2 and #3 the two happening on July 4th are close in locations. Did he take a bus or even walk? Changed from burning victim to stabbing. Who is this evil monster?

http://www.cbs8.com/story/32381766/another-homeless-man-attacked-downtown-suspect-at-large

#1 The body of the first victim in the series, 53-year-old Angelo De Nardo of San Diego, was found in flames in an open area off the 2700 block of Morena Boulevard in Bay Park about 8 a.m. Sunday. An autopsy determined that he had been killed prior to being set ablaze. Police have declined to release his cause of death. DIED

Witnesses to that attack told investigators they saw a man running across nearby Interstate 5, carrying a gas can.

#2 Shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, transient Manuel Mason, 61, was found bleeding from stab wounds to his upper body in the 3700 block of Greenwood Street, near Valley View Casino Center in the Midway district. He was hospitalized in critical condition but was expected to survive. EXPECTED TO SURVIVE

#3 Less than 90 minutes later, another drifter, 41-year-old Shawn Longley, was found dead at a park in the 2500 block of Bacon Street in Ocean Beach, about three miles from the scene of the second assault, according to police. The cause of his death has not been released. DIED

and then

http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...ch-for-Homeless-Serial-Killer--385765201.html

#4 Then, at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, an SDPD officer found the fourth man suffering "significant injuries" to his upper torso at State and West E Streets, near condos and the federal courthouse. Dionicio Derek Vahidy, 23, DIED

Dionicio Derek Vahidy, 23, lived four days after being set on fire. Imagine dying in such a painful nightmare just because you fell asleep in a vulnerable place, and then this monster comes along.

I wonder if the surviving man got a look at Padgett and will be able to identify him.
Padgett goes to court tomorrow. He's probably facing the Death Penalty, but I almost hope he ends up in the prison's general population if you know what I mean.

He would never be executed in Ca even if he gets the death penalty.

I'm so sorry he died too, and for the suffering he had to endure. Hope he passed out quickly.

WHAT? THIS CAN'T BE TRUE!
He was suppose to appear in court today at 1:30.
I don't believe this! I'm off to check to find out what's going on.

The man arrested in connection with a series of attacks on homeless men that left three dead and one critically injured last week was released from custody Monday, a District Attorney spokesman said.

Anthony Alexander Padgett was arrested Thursday in the spree that started July 3.

Could they have the wrong guy???
Padgett was scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon, but the San Diego County District Attorney’s office announced that the hearing was postponed and Padgett was being released from jail.

The San Diego Police Department scheduled a news conference at 3 p.m. to discuss the release of Padgett and renew calls for information about the attacks from the public.
