But why weight her body down in the lake with cement blocks, maybe never to be found. They could have easily have buried her in the ground never to be found. She floated to the top most likely from decomposition gasses, and subsequently became tethered to tree limbs growing out from the lake. Boots, do you think they placed her in the lake knowing that she would eventually float to the surface due to decomp thus delaying the investigation? I'm still undecided why they anchored her to weights....stall tactic or they really didn't know she would eventually float up for a period of time and be discovered.

I don't think they counted on her floating to the surface. This was one of the mistakes the killer made in my opinion. Always got the impression the sheriff had a strong hunch she was in the lake. It still bothers me that Mr. Dermond's head has not been found. It's a shame there have been no arrests in the Dermond's murders. That bothers me too.

One thing that has always puzzled me is why they left the husband's body, but took the wife's body several miles and dumped it.

JMO... They took Shirley because they knew it would slow down the investigation a bit.

Slow down the investigation or to use as a hostage or shield should they be stopped by DNR in route to their destination; the boat ramp near where Mrs Dermond's body was located. It is possible that one of the perps was witnessed in the D's yard, as reported by SS. Imo, it would be reasonable to conclude that they thought that 911 was called by the neighbor to report a suspicious person.

Did ego prevent this case from being "properly" investigated?

Likely. Hard headedness, stubborn.... My heart jumps every time I see a new post on the Dermond's thread that maybe there has been an arrest.

Thanx for the heads up Bently.. Serial killer/mass murderer...

After his arrest for abducting a woman and holding her captive for months, Kohlhepp confessed to 4 murders in a 2003 Super Bike Murders SC Cold Case. 3 bodies found on his property bring the total dead to 7 so far. Imo, they'll be more victims..

Yes, I think; pride, ego, stubborness............but my heart lept when I saw a post just now too Bootsctr.........I see it'was in regards to that SC murder/Serial Killer.........., well they aren't THAT far from Eatonton, that was my first thought when it came on the news

Do we think all the victims will be on his property or elsewhere? Eatonton is not too terribly far from there, dont know where this guys victims were from but guessing it's unlikely the D's were his victim too, because of the manner of disposal or lack thereof

Doubt that it is related, but I believe there may have been a beheading of one of TK's victims.. TK was institutionalized in a GA mental hospital while on probation as a juvenile in 1986...

It's not my intention to derail the thread, but to show how it is critical to use all available resources by investigators.
A behavioral profile was likely prepared by the FBI BAU2 of the unknown subject/s in the Dermond murders. If so, it should be shared with the public before more time passes and memories fade, imo. If investigators had followed up on the profile prepared in the 2003 Super Bike Murders. TK's trail of terror would have ended 12 years and multiple victims ago, imo..

In 2004 retired FBI profiler and pioneer of the BSU/BAU John Douglas prepared a profile of the unknown suspect/s in the SC Super Bike Murders case and their likely motive for the 4 murders; 'Killer Profiled as an angry man' -

I would like to say that I am shocked, but I'm not... Imo, this is the primary reason for the silence by Law Enforcement in many missing/murdered persons investigations. With a goal of identifying common denominators of M/M case investigations that are solved, compared to those that grow cold, In almost a decade of research, the ball was dropped in virtually every case.. 'Tragic'..

Perceived Hypothesis? Was retired FBI BSU/BAU John Douglas's extremely accurate profile disregarded? This is why many stranger/slight acquaintance abductions and homicides grow cold. Perceived hypothesis is also why the Adam Walsh case went cold for 3 decades...and there are over 200,000 unsolved homicides in the US since 1980...

Todd Kohlhepp’s name was one of 15 highlighted on a list provided to police of 400 customers of the business, but that the 45-year-old real estate agent was never questioned.

Makes sense that she was possibly used as a hostage in case anyone was onto them but also makes sens that they abducted her to confuse the investigation, which they did for about a week, it was very confusing IIRC, a man beheaded adn where is her wife, no idea where to look first and you want to find her if she's alive, but the perps dumped her in the lake once they felt safe, they didnt want to carry her body around, alive or dead............and as long as they had ample time to get away I dont think they cared if she was found or not but probably didnt expect her to surface but when she did , they were long gone without a trace so it's irrelevant really, IMO

That's HORRIBLE! What IS the reasongin behind this?? Are there not enough investigators? Slackers? and.... 200,000?!

There are various reasons dancinunderthemoon, but the primary reason that cases go unsolved when a slight acquaintance or stranger abduction/homicide occurs is Perceived Hypothesis; focus on the normal suspects... jmo

Hello all. It's been a long time...I have not posted on WS very much, or even had a chance to read here much, in a number of months.

Middle Georgia news in the last day or two has had items (two linked below) about the death of a woman in Eatonton that is being investigated by police and GBI -- not clear yet if foul play is suspected, and I am not going to bring her name here (and may she rest in peace) under these circumstances, but it sounded familiar to me and somehow was ringing a bell about something with this (the Dermonds) case. I logged on to do a little searching and found that there was a little discussion in Thread #9 about a club called Cashmere. I believe the woman recently found deceased was connected to this club. Ringing bells for anyone else?

Of course, this may not tie in AT ALL with the Dermonds' case -- but it did snag my attention.
