I'm thinking the branding isn't necessarily like an ownership brand (like what would be found on cattle) or a tattoo, but just a hot metal object pushed against the skin. Used just to cause permanent scarring and terrible pain.
Yes, but still making a permanent mark, power, control, ownership.

I think we should start looking into any sex traffickers operating in the area. Surely other women have been abducted from the area and we have not heard about them and they are probably not as newsworthy??

I posted a while back that the writing from 13 years ago may of been done as a prank. I'm glad to see it confirmed it was so those rumors can be put to rest. My sister in law had a coworker who bullied her. Made escort cards with my SIL's face and number on them and handed them out. And also posted photos of her on a bullying site. It was awful. She was able to get a restraining order but her lawyer told her that there's no way the pictures and disgusting words about her on the site can be deleted. A google search of her name brings it up. I see why web sleuths has the strict criteria it does.

But why was that particular piece of misinformation allowed to fester for so long? Bloggers covered it. It's been out in the open for how long now? And not one single person who knew better pointed out that it was fake?

That just makes no sense to me. I wonder if the ultra-secretive Sheriff had a hand in that.

I do believe it is fake, so don't get me wrong.

I also believe it is somehow involved. <modsnip>That is one heck of a coincidence, don't you think?

I'm starting to get on board with those that think she was told to say it was two Hispanic women.

This looks personal to me. Very personal. In fact, it looks like the work of a sick, sadistic killer who only let her go because it would provide him with a different kind of thrill. If so, it was probably the same guy who murdered her classmate. Might even be the same person who posted the skinheadz article.

I have to ask, though. How is it that she couldn't get that fake article and her picture pulled off that site? How did it get up there in the first place? Was the entire site the work of some depraved lunatic who wouldn't remove it? Very strange.

There are ways to remove an article from the web archive, by the way. I've had articles removed based on my copyright. Another way is to the buy the skinheadz domain and set up a suppression instruction. It's for sale, but they want $2495 for it. That a fair bit of coin.

If she is being evasive about who is involved because she was threatened, regardless whether she knows them or not, then I have to believe she would be extremely careful for many, many years to come. Because Mountain Gate is so rural, and not a place one "just happens upon", I would guess that she was targeted. At the very least, they know where to find her again ... if it was gang related, it's dangerous for her entire family, especially if arrests are made. I think I would move, and never feel safe jogging there again. As for her injuries, it sounds personally motivated, but this situation is so convoluted it's hard to clearly discern much. Letting her go on Thanksgiving seems like they were offering a gift or doing her a favor, which seems in direct opposition to throwing her from the vehicle (akin to throwing the trash out). And to release her the day after the ransom offer expired ... either they didn't watch the news / know about any ransom, or they weren't motivated by money, or they were paid and let her go the next day. The usual motivation for an abduction (kept in captivity for sexual purposes, often killed outright) seems to be missing here, but her injuries do suggest they were going to kill her. The gradiation of the bruising possibly suggests an ongoing, escalating violence, as one would expect in a ransom situation as they want more ... and more.

- The family immediately suspected abduction vs. much more common suicide or voluntary missing.

- They knew within a week that she was "out of the area".

- Keith said she was "screaming for him".

- Ransom negotiator was brought in very quickly.

- Kids were told she would be home by Thanksgiving.

So ... THIS SOUNDS PERSONAL.

LE is likely not disclosing important details since this is an active investigation. It doesn't mean they're not aggressively pursuing the perpetrators.

Exactly! LE never releases more info than they have to. Their goal is to protect the case, catch the bad guys/gals, and be able to hand over the case to the DA for prosecution. The public, including online case followers, have no choice but to cool their heels and wait for the professionals to resolve the case.

have they said if any type of money was tried to get out of the victim or her family? it seems the idea of a ffake kidnapping went out the window with her broken nose. normally you'd see superficial wounds you'd think if this was her faking something. Does anyone remember the other california case where a girl was kidnapped as a practice run for the real kidnapping a short time later? the girl was arrested for a fake kidnapping and then later sued when she was found to have told the truth. perhaps this is a set up for another kidnapping?

2014:

It was last month, in May when Redding police arrested two people they said kidnapped a 16-year-old girl in Sacramento. According to police the two suspects, 21-year-old Tanisha Williams and 25-year-old Melvin Baldwin-Green Jr., held the girl against her will at two Redding homes, then forced her into prostitution.

The teen was eventually able to escape, flagging down people who lived on the 1900 block of Hartnell Avenue. Police said the girl was held against her will for about a month and threatened if she tried to escape.

wouldn't seeing the design of this so-called "brand" perhaps provide a clue as to the ostensible "abductors'" affiliation with larger groups/gangs/etc?

Take a quick cell phone pic of the brand and post it/ share it. heck, a crude hand-drawing would be helpful at this point.

Deputy District Attorney Sarah Van Slyke, who delivered her closing arguments Wednesday, likened the two defendants, Melvin Baldwin-Green and Tanishia Savannah Williams, as slave owners.

"Slavery is exactly what seven young women (victims) suffered in this case," she said, adding that the two defendants looked upon them as "a commodity to be traded and sold."..
.

Since the pair were arrested, their case has grown to include more than two dozen felonies involving six other alleged victims, including one who reportedly told detectives she was threatened with torture and death before being dumped naked in a remote area near Red Bluff in February 2013.

Baldwin-Green also cut off that woman's hair before she was abandoned
and told her, "This is what happens to b------ who are not loyal," Van Slyke told the jury.

We just posted much the same thing at the same time (ie., that it's personal) but for different reasons.

Great additional point. What if there was some communication sent by the kidnapper? That would explain a lot.

I think LE often creates an atmosphere where the public has empathy for the victim's family, or suspects the victim families. Case in point, Jessica Lunsford's father. He was treated with real respect, and LE protected him and created an atmosphere in the media that he was innocent. Which he was.

In this case, this sheriff has all but said this is fishy, to the point of making misleading and dismissive statements about her injuries.

That just makes no sense to me. I wonder if the ultra-secretive Sheriff had a hand in that.

Per the Sheriff:
Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko told DailyMail.com that the blog post ‘came to light’ in the last few days and they are ‘investigating’ whether it has any links to the abduction...

The Sheriff said: ‘There was a post under her maiden name of Graeff and that was posted, kind of like a little bit of history of her growing up and then some cruelty that may have occurred to her father and that she was basically proud to be white. It was on some sort of skinheads website.

‘We will be investigating that (racial) aspect of the post but we do not have any information that that post was related to her abduction, one way or the other.’

While the Sheriff said his officers did not have any other evidence of any racial motive in the kidnapping, he added: ‘We’ll definitely look in to it to see if it will have a nexus in the case, but it is very early on. This is an open and ongoing investigation.’

The kidnapping and torture of students in Rochester last year was a case of mistaken identity. I think it was intended as payback for a drug-related robbery.

Sex trafficking in Shasta County functions under the laws of supply & demand, just like with any business. If there is a demand for a certain product, there will inevitably be a supply to satisfy that demand. This is a root problem as to why trafficking exists in our county.

According to police the teenager is from Sacramento and was reported as a run-away.

Baldwin-Green, was an acquaintance who allegedly forced her into his car.

Over the course of a month the teen was made to engage in sexual acts with men.

According to police Baldwin-Green posted her sexual services online and threatened her life if she tried to escape.

On Wednesday investigators located another internet escort ad believed to be placed by Baldwin-Green.

In a sting operation investigators arranged a meeting with a prostitute working with him at the Super 8 Motel in Redding.

What we need to do here is go back and dig up abductions that were carried out by two women, on a single woman, and the motive behind it. Obviously these would be people who were caught and convicted,

Sometime over the last 30-40 years this was bound to have happened before. I'd be willing to bet that the motives between one of those abductions and this one mirror each other. It may have been a local, barely known about crime at the time, but I'll bet this has happened before and probably for the same reason.
