George Michael Dies

My heart aches about this.

My brother read a biography about him some years back. Much like Freddie Mercuri, he longed for love but never found true love. That's what really makes me sad about this. Seems like he was a very sweet and sensitive man. But he never got what he wanted. And then he died so young. It's been a dark year.

A great performance with Queen at the tribute to Freddie Mercury concert.

Can't help but notice that the great singers all died so young. Freddie Mercury, Prince, Michael Jackson, now George Michael, and there are probably others, all died around 50. That is quite young. All of them so immensely talented, touching us and no doubt many future generations with their voice and music.

Thank you George, for sharing your music with the world!

Another sad loss - gone way too soon.

His music carried me through some of my darkest moments.

Be good to yourself because nobody else has the power to make you happy

RIP George xx :rose::rose::rose:

When I owned a salon, he was a 'sex' symbol and so many of the girls had posters around. I remember one huge one that we framed inside the salon because so many young men wanted his look. The hair, shadow beard etc. I wish I could remember the year. 1988 maybe? His music was every where. This is so very sad.

In 1991, Michael met and fell in love with Brazilian Anselmo Feleppa. Shortly after they got together, Feleppa discovered he had Aids. Michael spent the next four years nursing his boyfriend to his death.

On April 7, 1998, Rodriguez, a police officer for the City of Beverly Hills, California, was working with his partner in Will Rogers Park in Beverly Hills due to complaints of lewd acts taking place in the men's restroom.   Rodriguez entered the park's restroom after observing Michael enter.   As he exited one of the stalls, Rodriguez saw Michael fully exposed and engaging in a lewd act.

George Michael 'discharged from Vienna hospital'
George Michael has been discharged from a Vienna hospital after weeks of treatment for severe pneumonia, reports have claimed.

He later admitted: “I had my very first relationship at 27 because I really had not actually come to terms with my sexuality until I was 24.

Michael made no qualms about admitting how hiding his sexuality for so many years had taken a serious toll on his mental health.

By the age of 19, the Wham! front-man had admitted to his sisters and close friends as well as his bandmate Andrew Ridgeley that he was bisexual, but was advised not to come out to his parents.

“So firstly, understand how much I love my family and that Aids was the predominant feature of being gay in the 1980s and early 90s as far as any parent was concerned. My mother was still alive and every single day would have been a nightmare for her thinking what I might have been subjected to.

Bloated George Michael is unrecognisable as he steps out from rehab to celebrate birthday

...........................

26 December 2016

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ds-months-world-s-expensive-rehab-clinic.html

Last year he underwent three months of treatment at the Kusnacht Practice, near Zurich, which charges an eye-watering £70,000 a week.

Michael refused to discuss the reasons for his stay.

I was shocked to hear this news last night. 53 years young. After looking up articles on his previous years and the battles he has fought it saddens me that he struggled so. Although my brother was not a pop star, "he was to me" he also was gay and hid it, I see lot's of similarities. He immersed himself in his job to achieve VP of a printing company. In 1985 he was diagnosed HIV positive, (he was 25)and never told anyone, he refused to take any medicine, (not much available then, the virus that causes it was discovered in 1983) and just lived life to the fullest, cruises and a condo at the beach. 10 years went by before the rest of us knew, 3 months later he died. His death certificate read that he died of kidney failure, not hiv/aids I miss him dearly.

We both loved George Michael. RIP

It said it cant play in this country??

The first time I heard this I thought it was confusing , and made me wonder if he had been more like"found" and possibly days before . and actual TOD unknown.

Kind of like he had not been heard from for a bit and they checked. It was Christmas day , it seems logical that if he was not responding to efforts to contact that would cause alarm .

Typically part of a situation like includes who discovered, what had gone on in the several days prior - that kind of thing.

"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," said a statement from Michael's family.

....passed away peacefully

It almost feels as if loved ones knew their would be ;tox results were not going to overtly lie, but instead focus on and be grateful that he did not suffer.

The police stated they were called at *advertiser censored* and found deceased. There was no ambulance etc

LE specifically declared that they would say nothing else.

I wonder, no judgment here at all, it might be suicide.

From earlier link:

Michael went into a depressive spiral. Perhaps it was inevitable, he says - genetics. (significant imo ) There was a terrible history of depression in the family. “My poor old mum, she found both her father and her brother ... both stuck their head in gas ovens.” He was told that his uncle killed himself the day Michael was born - the subject of the song My Mother Had a Brother on his last album, Patience.

He was told that he was within months of being paralyzed unless he had a major back operation, which left him with rods in his back and permanent pain. He later discovered the operation was unnecessary.

He tried to pre-empt loss by buying a labrador puppy as a companion and eventual replacement for his aging dog. “And then the bloody puppy drowned in the Thames. Awful. Just awful. So I went through that and then the dog died soon after anyway.

Significant IMO: .... anybody to judge a man or woman for not coming out when they don’t know their family situation.............he didn’t do it because he knew his mum would be terrified that he’d contract Aids.

Its sad and awful, but IMO the wording is peculiar.

Details on Sony Music dispute

A 15-Year Contract

Mr. Michael had filed suit against Sony a year and a half ago, contending that the eight-album contract he signed in 1988 was unfair under British and European Union law because it bound him to the company for up to 15 years and gave him no control over how his music would be marketed

Michael testified that his discontent followed Sony's reaction to his 1990 album "Listen Without Prejudice, Volume I."

With that album, Mr. Michael said, he made a deliberate decision to play down the sultry, sex-symbol image he had cultivated starting with his days with the pop duo Wham,

testified that Sony had sought to punish him by not promoting "Listen Without Prejudice" as aggressively as it should have, particularly in the United States.

....... album sold five million copies, a relative disappointment after his 1988 album "Faith" sold 14 million copies worldwide

Justice Jonathan Parker largely accepted Sony's view of the matter, saying that the contract was "reasonable and fair" and that Mr. Michael understood the deal.....

Recording companies have always argued that because they spend so much to find and develop new artists, they can recoup their investments only through long-term relationships with those relatively few acts who go on to major success

contract he had to produce eight albums, but that the company could reject any material it did not like.

Although he lost the case, he orchestrated an expensive buy-out financed by a two-album deal with Virgin.

boy he dreamed of becoming a pilot; he was disappointed to find, however, that his myopia and color blindness would make that pursuit impossible.

estaurant that Michael's father owned became successful enough for the family to move to the affluent suburb of Bushey

critics categorized Wham! as pretty-boy pop. "I totally threw away my personal credibility for a year and a half in order to make sure my music got into so many people's homes,"

ichael recorded a duet with soul high priestess Aretha Franklin. The single, titled "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," won a Grammy Award in 1987.

One single in particular, "I Want Your Sex," caused quite a stir among radio programmers. Many stations banned it, and others restricted it only to late-hour play.

Michael's stylistic range and skill at integrating inventive new sounds into strong, well-shaped tunes is unequaled by any young pop craftsman with the possible exception of Prince." Rolling Stone's Mark Coleman

....
Michael's metamorphosis from journeyman to innovator has been so swift and dramatic that one can't begin to imagine where he'll go from Faith."

Awards: American Video Award (with Andrew Ridgeley), Best New Video Artist, 1985; British Academy of Song-writers, Composers, and Authors, Igor Novello Award, Best Songwriter, 1985; Grammy Award (with Aretha Franklin), Best Rhythm and Blues Performance by a Duo for "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," 1987; MTV Video Award, Best Direction for video "Faith," 1988; Grammy Award, Album of the Year for Faith, 1988; American Music Awards, Best Pop Male Vocalist, Best Soul/Rhythm and Blues Vocalist, and Best Soul/Rhythm and Blues Album, 1989; Capitol Radio Award, Best Male Singer, 1996; MTV Europe Award, Best British Male, 1996; Ivor Novello Award, Songwriter of the Year, 1996.

Back in those days LE spend a lot of time and taxpayer money entraping gay men.

Crusing back then was a big part of the lifestyle. There was no HIV and no social media.

Have always been intuiive, never got trapped, knew folks who had. I could always sense when they were a cop.

They had the haircut, generaly had a cop walk(!)

They would put in decent looking cops. It alway enraged me. Not being crude, but heterosexual men -- think about it.

If you were at the beach and some female approached you and lets say started being seducative - would you not think that she was interested? Gay or not - were men - how it works.

The cops in the bathroom would generally make the first motion. That is entrapment.

Here is the cop that may have entrapped him:

I always also thought the cops that are volunteering to hang out in public toilets might have some repressed issues of their own!!

Please............

Sales of his greatest hits album doubled after he spoke frankly about the incident in an interview with Michael Parkinson.

that is interesting -- cause steroids came up in one arrest as class C drugs.

Could steroids have been used for inflammation during his 2011 illness and he got addicted?

I believe that is a different type of steroid.

Wow he really ballooned. Reminds me of Elvis.

Could he have had thyroid problems?

The article says "He was found dead by a friend yesterday", which to me sounds more like an unexpected death, different than the statement released yesterday saying he died peacefully at his home, which made me think, surrounded by family and an expected death from a known illness.

Heart attack? Not unlikely given his weight.

The era I am referring to is late 70's!

Michael helped moved the stereotype of effeminate men as being untrue.

The really scary part is much of America still believes it is a gay deal.

Although its impact on our culture has been most immense, in historic terms,The reality today is one in four newly diagnosed cases are heterosexuals.

2015:

 • Heterosexual contact accounted for 24% (9,339) of HIV diagnoses.
Which in reality is probably far higher. The statistics use male to male contact , while ignoring that there are many married men, with wives and children who are cruising the bars and bathhouses, and having male to male sex.

The concept of straight men who have sex with men challenges the traditional and for many the unyielding belief that sexual behavior is indicative of identity.

Many gay men have slept with married men. Those are their choices, it is however, far more prevalent than many know.

Imo and from being in our establishments in many cities in my younger days!

more straight-identifying men are admitting to ...

6.2 percent of them said they had engaged insame-sex sexual activity at least once in their lifetime. And of that 6.2 percent, 2.3 percent identified as straight.

Rob (not his real name) is 46-years-old. He lives in San Jose, CA and has been married to his wife for 12 years. He identifies as “straight with bisexual tendencies” and has been hooking up with other guys on the down low since he was 19.

Andrew (not his real name) is 33-years-old and lives near New Orleans, LA. He identifies as totally straight and has been married to his wife since he was 21. He had his first gay experience about ten years ago.

I agree, when I heard last night the "statement" just did not "feel" right to me. Too carefully worded.

more is emerging and I think there will be more
