Wow - good find.

In Burke's bio, I found this job description interesting: "undercover narcotics detective"

You know who else's father was in law enforcement in NYC/LI likely the same time as Burke's father? A SCPD cop who lived in Smithtown for years and then moved to Oak Beach and became Hackett's next door neighbor. Apparently, after the SG/GB4 discovery, he left his job at SCPD, took a job at NYPD, and then he too quietly moved to Florida. His initials are also JB.

Makes 4 of the players, who moved to FL plus one additional connection to the Sunshine State. Here, kitty kitty..

'Seems that Burke believes he's Irish with a LE lineage. (I dunno, didn't sleuth 'em)
:shame: Uhmm... I must admit I did sleuth the family business and still think the limo service/air conditioning combo is odd.

However, I wonder if the other JB cop was at home the night SG was running scared through the neighborhood... maybe he was out of town or maybe he was visiting a neighbor. One would think those within the OB gates would have tried to contact him that night, no?

Exactly. Along with calling 911 that morning, a likely choice to call is the SCPD cop who lives a few houses away -- about 250 yards from where Shannan was last seen. Perhaps the cop wasn't around at the time -- but then, maybe he was around and very aware of the situation.

Some parallels between the 2 JBs:

SCPD
JB in jail: SCPD police chief in 2010
JB next to Hackett: SCPD police officer in 2010

FAMILY TRADITION
JB in jail: father was LE
JB next to Hackett: father was LE

IRISH ROOTS
JB in jail: Irish surname
JB next to Hackett: Irish surname

SMITHTOWN
JB in jail: grew up in Smithtown
JB next to Hackett: owned a home in Smithtown, sold 2007

OAK BEACH
JB in jail: seen at parties in Oak Beach
JB next to Hackett: house in Oak Beach

Age difference about 6 years: Burke is 52, JB next to Hackett is 46

When talking about the guy she called the tip on, Leanne the escort said: "He fit the profile. You know, Oak beach, boating, access to certain things, age, travel.... His number was found on Jimmy Burke's phone when he was arrested."

She also states: "He was a family man and he had police knowledge" and this person “has some authority over her”. A SCPD officer would have "some authority" over a person whom he knows is involved in prostitution in Suffolk County.

Could Hackett's next door neighbor, who was a SCPD police officer, be the person on Burke's phone? Could he be the subject of Leanne's tip?

Nicely done comparison analysis.

You are assuming Burke's father is a former LE. It has not been proven to me to my satisfaction. Saying someone is your father and someone saying they are the father does not make you the father.

Burke is at least 1/2 Italian. Having the name of Burke does not make him Irish. And therein may lie the mystery.

Burke grew up in Smithtown. That depends on how you define growing up and when you are considered all grown up. I believe he actually grew up 10-12 in Ozone Park and took his early developed skills with him to Smithtown.

You're all confusing me. I only know of 2 JB's; one incarcerated ex-chief and one a few doors down from CPH (where SG visited). CPH's neighbors were GC and Barbara B, a widow. Is this correct? Thanks.

Leanne has a very specific person in mind and it is NOT a cop. In many ways the person has even stronger ties to the LE community than your average cop would have. The family in Suffolk goes way back to the turn of the 20th Century.

Interesting. I had a feeling.

One of the adaptations that arises in areas such as New York and Boston is that there are areas of Irish and areas of Italians, etc. When we came to America, we formed area hives of the mother country's culture within cities close to port. Markets and churches reflected the food and religion. Only later did people assimilate and spread, but it was slow and due to numerous sociological phenomenon such as suburban flight with the transportation boom, etc. Sorry, my long preamble is simply to point out that Boston and New York probably have numerous Jim Burke's.

Well stated..... I am proof of that! Italian/Irish descent..

I hope Chris Loeb gets the treatment he needs to treat his addiction and takes his family far far away from Long Island with all that money he is going to win in his lawsuit. Burke was supposed to help keep drugs OFF the streets! Maybe if he did the job he was sworn in to do there would be less people addicted and turning to criminality to support their Drug habit.

In a perfect world CL would get himself clean & sober, but chances are good that a large sum of money will have the opposite effect on him, sadly & unfortunately.

While JB is a scoundrel, he didn't get CL hooked up on drugs. That's all on CL, he is the keeper of his own body & soul....

I have read that often times drug addiction is a way for addicts to self medicate bi polar, depression, and ocd. Sending prayers to chris.

While it's true that most drug addicts do self medicate, there is a school of thought that bi-polar is something created by said addiction. But once clean & sober, it resolves itself. Usually takes about a year after sobriety to properly diagnose bi-polar. What I see happening though is people going into treatment are being diagnosed bi-polar by one session with a psychiatrist who then prescribes medication upon admission.

This IMO isn't a good treatment plan for a addict. Getting them off of drugs and then hooking them on other drugs, keeps the wheel of addiction going, as these people believe this is the way out of a life of horror. Bi-polar cannot be properly diagnosed one day after withdrawal from a life time of self medication.

FYI – you folks following the Burke Chronicles should know this: After the reporter who wrote the article 2 months after Loeb was arrested for stealing the duffle bag out of Burke’s Department SUV, Newsday received 2 ANONYMOUS letters ( would you expect anything else from these cretins?) attempting to defame and discredit her. One letter was intended to morally discredit her with a false allegation and the other was regarding an internal matter. IMO, the latter could have only come from a mole within Newsday because such information was only in the hands of Newsday – assuming it was true. Both allegations were without merit.
There came a time when the reporter went to investigate a long time allegation that Burke was caught in an NYPD prostitution sting in Brooklyn (2002-03). That he was let go after DA Spota and Brooklyn DA Hynes came to an arrangement to let Burke avoid arrest.
The reporter received information that an active SCPD lieutenant was present when the call was made and knew about it. She went to the LT’s home to interview him. Of course, he knew nothing. Two weeks later Newsday received a letter from the SCPD Superior Officer’s Council to ‘cease and desist’ contacting any member of the SCPD concerning Chief Burke. Newsday, instead of putting the letter on the front page of the paper just dropped it like the hot potato it was. All they had to do was print the letter and not even comment because the letter spoke for itself.
All this reporter was doing was running down a lead, a lead that probably came from an SCPD police officer.

This makes me so mad. I am the most honest person I know so when I detect dishonestly it just grinds me up....

Burke as Chief of Department removed the FBI from the LISK case is that correct? What did the C.O. of Homicide, lead detective, Chief of Detectives and Police Commissioner do? What did the D.A. do? The premiere LE entity in the world is removed and not a word of protestation. Another question: When Bellone was made aware by anonymous letter of Burke's complete unfitness to be a cop let alone Chief he asked the D.A.
Why didn't he ask the PC, who could verify or refute letters contents immediately. Anyone buying the Bellone babe in the woods act?

OK, so I am totally confused but I just purchased the Kindle version of "Lost Girls" for $1.99 from Amazon. I have spent over 30 hours this week and weekend plowing through blogs and all kinds of weird sites.
Hawk, RM who has been very influential since the 20th cen had 2 daughters and 2 grandsons, all of whom have passed. So I'm barking up the wrong tree in guessing games.
Time to start reading...

Nah, nobody that knows anything bought the Bellone Babe in the woods. They call that getting in front of the problem. Those pesky little problems are catching up with him and his boys and will run them over.

Spota jumped the gun when he arrested a cop named Robert D, Locks him up for allegedly passing information to a card game operator. Spota knew the FEDS were on the same track. Too bad Spota didn't solve the murder of a guy named Peter G. He got murdered outside of the same place he locked up the cop. Call that making it look like you are doing something when you are actually covering it up.

Hawk- last week you had mentioned that groundbreaking news in the LISK case was set to be revealed sometime throughout the week. When should we expect to hear the news?

The 'groundbreaker' is away for the moment. But like I said it all has to be checked out. It's not dead by any means. more and more people of note are taking an interest. Every day that goes by you learn something new.

Barbie, I hear you.

In a perfect world, hawk wouldn't have to type so much.
