Dramatic details emerge in missing persons case

Husband admitted to having an affair

Police issued warrants for the cell phone of the missing woman's husband, Christopher Leclair, after investigators learn he was having an affair.

On Sunday, Christopher Leclair, a Commercial Fisherman from Albion, made a call of distress to the U.S. Coast Guard. He said his wife, who has now been identifed as 51 year old, Karen Leclair, fell overboard into Lake Erie when they were boating together. He told authorities he looked away for 15 minutes, and when he looked back, she was gone.

After the Coast Guard suspended the search, the State Police served warrants. Through the investigation, Christopher Leclair told officials he was having an affair with an Albion woman.

Police searched through Christopher's phone and saw the pair had texted on June 12th, the day after Karen reportedly went overboard.

Lt. Wayne Kline, Crime Section Commander, said "we haven't determined anything to be suspicious in nature. We're just being thorough. We want to rule out everything and really attempt to find Mrs. LeClair."

Officers also told us the 52 foot fishing boat was well-equipt, with all the necessary safety gear, but Karen was not wearing a life jacket.

Those who know Leclair say he had a business providing shiners and other bait to local bait shops.

When I click the link, I don't see an arrest. I did look at her FB page. There is a photo of her and a man standing on their boat. Might be the husband. So sad and unnecessary.

Video helped lead to boater’s arrest in wife’s death

Christopher S. Leclair, 48, who was arraigned on a criminal homicide charge late Tuesday night, has not offered any assistance in the investigation into the whereabouts of his wife, whom the Pennsylvania State Police believe disappeared in the lake sometime on Saturday afternoon, Lt. Wayne Kline, crime section supervisor for state police Troop E in Lawrence Park Township, said Wednesday.

Leclair, who is in the Erie County Prison without bond, invoked his right to an attorney when he was picked up by troopers outside of his residence, at 9670 Route 6N, on Tuesday night, Kline said. During interviews with troopers on Monday, Leclair gave conflicting information and provided details that didn’t add up, he said.

Human remains found on Lake Erie shoreline
LAKE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that a human leg has been recovered in Lake City along the Lake Erie shoreline.

A fisherman reportedly contacted police around 8:15 p.m. Thursday after spotting what he believed was a human body part.
Pennsylvania State Police, Lake City Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene near the Elk Creek Access area and searched for several hours.

Police could not immediately determine an identity; but authorities have been searching for 51-year-old Karen Leclair, of Elk Creek Township, one day after being captured on camera heading out onto Lake Erie with her husband, Christopher Leclair, 48.

Tuesday a body was found on the shore of Lake Erie near Dunkirk, NY, and from reading this article there's a strong suspicion it may be Karen:

[h=1]The Latest: Body ID'd as that of missing wife; shot in head[/h]
Pennsylvania state police say a body found along the New York shoreline of Lake Erie with a gunshot wound to the head and an anchor attached to the torso has been identified as that of a woman whose husband reported her missing and then was charged with killing her.

Albion, Pennsylvania, resident Karen Leclair was reported missing June 11 by commercial fisherman Christopher Leclair.

Lt. Wayne Kline says dental records were used to identify Karen Leclair's body Wednesday. He says Christopher Leclair's dad tried to hide the revolver used to shoot her and has been arrested.

Christopher Leclair told police his wife was sitting on a bucket on the edge of a boat when she apparently fell overboard while he wasn't looking. Authorities charged him with criminal homicide because dock surveillance cameras show the couple left together the day before he reported her missing and he returned alone.

Bloody heck, his dad tried to cover for him? Self-censoring my opinion on all of this. I hope they throw the book at these losers. :jail::banghead::behindbar

Another article, which describes his 'efforts' to weigh Karen down some more: http://www.goerie.com/news/20170706/body-found-in-lake-erie-identified-as-karen-leclair

From the above link:

"Lt. Wayne Kline, crime section commander of Pennsylvania State Police Troop E in Lawrence Park Township, said that Karen Leclair died from a single gunshot wound to the head from a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver.

State police investigators accuse Christopher S. Leclair of tying his wife’s ankles with rope and securing another rope around her chest containing an anchor attached to it. The anchor was a type commonly used for fishing nets and was not heavy enough to keep her down, Kline said.

The anchor was still attached to Karen Leclair when her body was found in Lake Erie, Kline said.

Investigators recovered the Smith & Wesson revolver Wednesday at the home of Christopher and Karen Leclair, Kline said."
