"The victim was standing outside*when he was struck by gunfire that came from a passing vehicle.*Witnesses reported seeing a white, four-door sedan.*

Authorities in East Feliciana Parish say they are stopping short of saying they are searching for a "serial killer"*after the seemingly random shootings of four men within a 25-mile area.

Authorities say they will remain “open minded” about whether the shootings are indeed related, and*at this point, remain uncertain as to whether or not they are connected.

The FBI has been contacted for assistance in the case."

Thanks to whomever cleaned up my post. I admit I always have a hard time finding the "rules" for how to start posts and what to include!

So, a lot of people in my area are starting to freak out over these. These men were all killed/shot while outside their homes with for no known reason in rural areas. There is speculation, but no assurance by local law enforcement that they are connected as the similarities in the cases are striking. Some posts on facebook have said that there is a common car that has been reported in the area for each of them. What is it about South LA/ Baton Rouge that attracts serial killers?!?!?!

Thanks for starting the thread rhapsdy definitely keeping an eye on this one, no doubt they're related. One report states a shotgun in the first two and early in the day, and the third a handgun and later in the day.

I must say.. Seeing all of their pictures together it's a little eerie how much all the victims resemble each other.

East Feliciana Sheriff forms task force to investigate rural shootings

Sheriff Jeff Travis says a task force of about 20 will operate out of the East Feliciana Parish Jail building while local and federal authorities investigate the shootings. Members of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office could be seen among the task force members outside the jail Tuesday morning.

The announcement comes after the latest shooting occurred Monday morning, leaving 48-year-old Brad DeFranceschi dead near his Clinton home.

Brad DeFranceschi, 48, was shot multiple times about 11:15 a.m. Monday in front of his house on camp property, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis said at a news conference.

DeFranceschi is the fourth middle-aged or older white man to be shot since July in the area, but investigators don't know if the shootings are related. The earlier shootings occurred within 25 miles (40 kilometers). Two were fatal.

The three other men also were shot at their homes or on their property. Those killed were Thomas Bass, 62, on July 8, and Carroll Breeden, 66, on Sept. 19. Buck Hornsby, 47, was wounded Sept. 12, 10 miles (16 kilometers) down Louisiana Highway 63 from DeFranceschi's home.

(Subscribing, thank you Katy for the heads up!)

Deputies responded to the shooting about 11:15 a.m. at 6897 La. 63, just east of Clinton, said East Feliciana Sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Greg Phares.

East Feliciana Sheriff Jeff Travis identified the victim as 48-year-old Brad DeFranceschi. A friend from Boy Scouting said DeFranceschi had worked at Avondale for the last 17 years and lived on the campground.

A camp ranger of the Boy Scouts of America Avondale Scout Camp in Clinton was fatally shot Monday morning, said Gary Mertz, the CEO/Scout Exec…

Travis said DeFranceschi was close to the road when he was shot multiple times in front of his home, though he would not clarify if the incident was a drive-by shooting. However, he did indicate that authorities were searching for a small, four-door white car with tinted windows.

A string of random, fatal shootings of older white men has been occurring in rural areas of East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana since mid-summer and are continuing now. All of these shootings have occurred within a 25 mile radius. Authorities have yet to officially link these shootings, though they are apparently on the lookout for "a small, four-door white car with tinted windows."

The victims are:

-62 year old Thomas Bass, shot to death outside of his home on July 8.

-47 year old Buck Hornsby, shot while exercising outside of his home on September 12. He survived.

-66 year old Carroll Breeded, shot to death while trimming weeds in his front yard on September 19.

-48 year old Brad DeFranceschi, shot to death while trimming weeds outside of his home on October 9.

After high speed chase, suspect apprehended and booked on murder charges

Captured: Clinton man, possibly a serial killer, suspected in four shootings booked into prison

BY EMMA DISCHER | edischer@theadvocate.com Oct 11, 2017 - 4:07 pm

[...]

A 36-year-old Clinton man who led authorities on a chase Wednesday was later captured and confessed during interrogation in the three killings and non-fatal shooting in the past few weeks near the East Feliciana-East Baton Rouge parish line.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux would not comment on Ryan Sharpe's motive in the shootings or if he knew the man.

Sharpe, of 14227 Highway 959, Clinton, will be booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of first-degree murder in the death of Carroll Breeden. He will also be booked by the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

So far, all we know about him, according to the report I linked.

1. He was the owner of Sharpe Plumbing LLC since 2015

2. He had a lot of dogs.

3. Neighbors said he often threw parties.

Nothing there points to motive, so I'm very curious, too.

I hope we actually learn motive or at least the connection (if there was any) between the victims and why he chose them. It's so crazy! I'm so impressed with LE and how quickly they were able to catch this guy. He confessed when taken into custody and apparently they have lots of physical evidence.

Here's some interesting info found in this recent article: http://www.wbrz.com/news/surviving-victim-wants-confessed-murderer-to-face-death-penalty

The surviving victim, Buck Hornsby, said Sharpe performed plumbing work on his family member's property and was most recently there last week.

Jason Hornsby is Buck's cousin. He said Sharpe had his family's gate code and repeatedly asked how Buck was doing after the shooting. When news of the shootings broke, Hornsby said Sharpe told him the whole situation is "crazy."

Jason Hornsby said Sharpe was supposed to pick up $900 for plumbing work Saturday. He never showed up.

"He was doing work on an outdoor kitchen," Jason Hornsby said. "It is mind-boggling he was on our property the whole time."

That's just so crazy.
