I believe Drew Atchison has known the family for years and has been close to them. The family not only has to deal with the shock and loss of family but also that of who killed them. Drew also has a daughter about the same age as Willa, which makes it even more mind boggling. All this due to statements made by CS. There were posts made yesterday that the Sherriff requested they be taken down in an effort to be able to get a Jury when that time arrives.

I have never seen a case where the Court goes directly to a Counsel Status Hearing so quickly. They must know they are going for the Death Penalty.

From reading around FB he had been "part of the family" and even attended the baby's first birthday party. She most likely looked to him as an Uncle or the like. What went so wrong here?

Good Lord that is awful. So now another little girl has to grow up without her Dad and with the knowledge of what her Dad did!

As for the status hearing, I don't find it TOO unusual. Each judge has their own way of doing things and this one appears to want to have early control of this case.

I’ve never, ever been more horrified than I am right now..... and I have followed hundreds of cases here on WS. Y’all, he pulled the trigger three times. As a momma, imaging the fear in this sweet baby is almost more than I can take.

Also momma mode over here, it physically pains me to think that she had zero idea that she was in such danger. Sick.

That means he was pre-meditated three separate times. I think when they give him the needle they should only give him enough to put him so sleep the first two times and let him wake up. Then tell him "we're just practicing". On the third, let him have it.

I live in MO so this case is pretty local for me. I am familiar with the area where this happened. The town and area is very tight knit, an area where people live to avoid "big city" crimes. Nothing ever happens like this. Where you don't have to even think there "is a killer among us". Even if you don't know someone, you know someone who does. Something like this has affected people and families spread over three counties.

I had trouble sleeping last night, thinking about this case and that has never happened before. But the same thought as you kept going through my mind. I am glad that the MO Highway Patrol was involved from the beginning. They are the ones that are accustomed to process.

But I know that meth users can be prone to violence when they come off a high. Seems extreme to murder your best friends because they wont let you stay at their home.

I am right there with the mother, Atchison needs to get a death sentence. This evening Texas is set to execute a man that murdered his own children. Good riddance!

Iirc from another case meth can be detected by urinalysis for up to about 1-3 days after use or 12hrs with a blood test.

I believe there might be some confusion regarding the toxicology report. Ms. Skitts may have been told of a clean toxicology report, but I think they may have been talking about H. Million. D. Atchison was arrested Monday morning and without an attorney yet surely would not consent to a blood test by LE. A probable cause statement was not filed right away so I don't see a Judge signing a search warrant to take one. Much less get a definitive result for evidence. Also much less divulge that result to the victim family.

I have no doubt that the Mother was not only in shock at the time but still is and will be forever. I just think there was either miscommunication by the Mother or maybe the media that reported that Atchison's toxicology report came out clean.

Atchison's case got a change of venue and Judge (which is almost automatic in MO) to Cole County which is Jefferson City, MO. A new Judge has not been assigned yet. When there is I will post it here. Have talked to Samara's Mother a couple times. That poor woman.
