Someone paid him cash for rent?

Not if it were a registered and active business....imo

Fairfax has reported police seized a single mattress and computers from a unit in Laurieton, which is about a 15 minute drive from where the boy disappeared on September 12...................

An employee of a shop underneath told Fairfax forensic officers had taken several items from the scene.

He said he believed a man and a woman lived in the unit but said he had never seen anyone in the office space where police had focused their investigations.

Thanks soso. Believed, but never saw anyone. So I wonder what made him think / believe that there were people there.

I wonder if the unit he's referring to is the pawn shop? Or did Spedding have another room / unit there too? The mind boggles.

Retired? Builds giant shed in backyard of his rental. Trained electrician. Yet runs pawnbroker shop.

Mr Spedding is a trained electrician who has worked as an air conditioning and heating specialist and repairs a range of white goods including refrigerators.

The Speddings have three grandchildren living with them at the Bonny Hills home, where children's bikes and a trampoline were pictured in the backyard as police searched on Wednesday.

Head of the homicide squad, Detective Superintendent Michael Willing, said anyone who has information on William's disappearance should listen to his mother's plea and do the right thing and come forward.

"They have laid bare their feelings in a heart-wrenching plea for the community's help and are doing everything in their power to seek the safe return of their little boy." Detective Superintendent Willing said.

Just wanted to post this again.

It is also probably good for everyone to read Coldpizza's message (post #3) on previous page, so they can feel confident that the convo is all part of the WS rules.

Who does own that grey car??? Even if it was a police ploy, there would have been someone whose car was similar, that police were wanting to search. imo

I'm sure someone can refresh my memory, and provide the right links, but I seem to recall that someone's son had a grey car & it was scrapped in Qld. ??

KL had a silver coomodore in 2015 according to Sm.she refers to it as her sexy car

Bickford reportedly struggled to recall the exact location where he and his wife were with guests friends for lunch. News Corp reports.
“We went out to somewhere. I can’t remember exactly. Surely they (the friends) would have verified that (to police),” he said...............

When William's case opened up, Bickford said he was expecting police to seek him out, being one of 80 pedophiles in the mid-north coast area.
Bickford claims he owned a white Commodore and his son had a grey sedan which was in Brisbane.

Just as other would have verified BS being at the school or not ...imo
How does PB know there were 80 pedo's in the area?

But
from thread 20 post 629
don't know if the link still works.

The Daily Telegraph understands Bickford was driving a grey sedan at the time of William’s disappearance, and Jones was driving a white station wagon.
Police have said two vehicles matching those descriptions were spotted by William’s mother on the day the then three-year-old went missing from a home in Kendall, near Port Macquarie.

BBM, I don't think they were involved with GAPA. I know Bickford was but pretty sure the Spedding's weren't. I will stand corrected if wrong though.

yes youre right, i think they were members of the other kinship care group?

But the group's chaplain Alan Battishall denies any involvement with person of interest Bill Spedding, 63, after the washing machine repairman became a person of interest after agreeing to source a part to fix William's grandmother's washing machine.

While police are investigating the group as one line of inquiry, no current group or breakaway group members are persons of interest in William’s case or are suspected of having abused children.

Paul Bickford, who stepped down as GAPA president for “family reasons” last year, is serving a 16-month suspended sentence for indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome during a drive to the shops to buy her lollies.

Another GAPA member, Anthony Jones, is behind bars and awaiting a September 14 sentencing for indecently assaulting a different 11-year-old child.
Both men — who are close friends — were arrested and charged in the time following the disappearance of William.

Just re-visiting this and trying to understand, soso. Do you understand it to be 2 different units? It's a bit confusing, the word unit. Is one of the units the pawn shop? I thought that's where they seized the computer and mattress from, but obviously not.

So is he saying that he has seen the man and woman in one unit, but then he goes on to say he had never seen anyone in the office space where police had focused their investigations. I thought the latter was the pawn shop, where they'd also found a bag of mobile phones. Surely he'd seen Spedding there? And didn't Spedding have any customers going up there?

So are we talking the shop and 2 other units? The shop and one other unit? Semantics can be so confusing.

Who owned the unit where the man and lady were seen? Was it part of the Spedding empire?

I think back in the threads when it was discussed it was said there was an office with a flat/unit attached.
I always just assumed it was the office part that was raided but maybe the unit as well...:dunno:

If it were not for the employee below we would have no clue about the possibility of a man and woman living there.

Ha, yes that seems to strike a long distant chord. The old memory isn't what it used to be.

If so, you'd think the police would have interviewed them. (I'm sure they would've - we just wouldn't know about it). Wonder if they saw and heard anything interesting.

There is a lot that does not add up in this article.

1. Spedding was asked to repair the washing machine because grandma was expecting stayover visitors. (Sort of urgent job)
... his grandmother told repairman Bill Spedding she was expecting a stay-over visit from her family and could he fix her faulty washing machine.

2. But Spedding claims he wasn't meant to be there on Friday, even though he received the part the previous day.
.. Mr Spedding has claimed to relatives and police he was never due to visit Kendall on the day three-year-old William vanished, September 12, 2014, and was simply calling to say the part needed to repair the washing machine had arrived.

3. Yet he did a job, apparently, Friday afternoon.
... It is understood Mr Spedding performed a separate repair job at a home in Dunbogan, roughly 14km from Kendall, about 2pm on the Friday William vanished.

4. He would have wanted to go to grandma's place that morning, because he had footy on the weekend, and a job in the afternoon a fair distance from Kendall. If he was any good at planning, and keeping his customers happy.
.... He said he was “relieved” when he could not reach William’s grandmother by phone because he didn’t want to perform the repair over the weekend and wanted to take his children to their football game.

So, one would think he would be bouncing up on Friday morning, and heading right over to grandma's, part in hand, before the noon assembly, to keep his weekend free.
Makes far more sense to get the further (from his home) job done in the morning, head back to the assembly  , then go to Dunbogan, then home.

I think you don't understand how it goes when you are self employed. You are your own boss in charge of your own time. If he did not feel like going to the FGM that morning, even if the part had arrived, he didn't have to. If he wanted to go watch the kids sport on the weekend instead of doing jobs he could. His choice. He was a white goods repairman in a small town. He was probably sought after if he was the only one in the area. He and MS were probably pulling in good money as foster carers ( they do get good money, I know some foster carers) so he would do the jobs he wanted to, when he wanted to. I think we might be making too much of what has been said about where he was supposed to be and when. Nothing would be set in concrete and he would probably do it at his convenience.

BBM
So, if he had never seen anyone in Spedding's office space, I guess maybe Spedding wasn't there either when he 'stopped into his office before going for coffee and Margaret's grandson's school assembly'? It was a Friday morning. One would presume the shop was open for business, that the person may have noticed Spedding or his van.

When did he go to that office, then? Evidently, not during normal shop trading hours.

I wonder what the man and woman in the unit had observed about Spedding's comings and goings.

BBM I couldn't even read past your first sentence. I am self-employed! :D :D :D

Some assumptions here are so funny!

I know exactly how it works. How you must stay self-motivated, keep your clients happy, be there when they need you. Otherwise you just don't get any further business. He was not the only repairman in that area, we looked that up before.

You make appointments and show up for them, because you need your reputation to stay above reproach. You need more business from them and anyone they may refer.

Although there is some room for flexibility, you work at your client's convenience, not your own. If the convenience works out to be mutually agreeable, that is great. If not, you do what you must do .... when it needs doing.

.

Then you will know that if you are making good money you can pick and choose the jobs you do. If he was the only repairer in town he would be able to pick and choose the jobs and probably charge a motza for it. He is also in the older age bracket so would be winding down with his work . It depends on a lot of things as to how you run your business. Your age, family situation, how physical your job is, your lifestyle. Lots of things. To me, BS is living in a laid back town, close to retirement and would not be trying to build a business up for the future. Retirement would be on the horizon. I am not saying he should not be a POI in William's abduction. I am just saying that his relaxed approach to his business is not really suspicious.

He was not the only repairman in town. We looked that up before.

His son even said how much his business has dropped off since he became a POI. People, I am sure, are still getting their washing machines repaired.

I, too, am not trying to build my business. It is plenty of work maintaining what I have coming in. I do not even advertise, I work only on referral. It still leads to plenty of work that must be maintained. You don't let your referrals slide, because the referring client hears all about it. You say yes you will do it, or no that you won't. You don''t say you will help someone with a fairly urgent job, then not help them when they need it.

I understand perfectly.

He would have gone to grandma's that morning to fix the washing machine, with the part that had arrived the day before. She needed the work done, it was somewhat urgent. She was also well known in the area, wouldn't need bad advertising from her.

He would have squeezed in an assembly, if there was time. He would have gone on to his arvo appointment to keep his weekend clear.

That is still a light day. One appointment in the morning, one in the arvo.
