What the heck?? Why little children? Could it be a child playing with a gun? Ugh... I hope the little one survives.

This is despicable': Chief Saunders says after 2 girls shot at playground
“Some cowards came into this neighbourhood and opened fire into a playground,” said Saunders, who added that the children were not the intended targets."

Saunders said police are looking for at least one suspect who fled the scene in a vehicle.

No suspect description is currently available, but Saunders said witnesses are cooperating and police are obtaining security video from the area.

“We are going to do anything and everything we can to restore safety in this neighbourhood,” Saunders vowed.

“This is a cowardly act. …There’s no bravery here, in fact this is absolute stupidity.”

Saunders implored the shooter to turn himself in. “If not we will find you,” he said."

Dear Dotr,

Thank you for this news article. It mentioned the police would be checking the surveillance video of the area to identify the suspect's car as he left. Hopefully the police have tracked him and already arrested him.

I am worried about the little girls' conditions.

How could they not be the targets? All the people injured were little kids. I'm confused. Sounds like a minor did this imo.
More than likely it was a gang shooting or some other dispute between the gunman and the other person who was injured, and the children got in the way. It's not uncommon for innocent bystanders to be shot in incidents like this. A bullet can miss it's intended target and hit a bystander a mile away.

'It's senseless': 2 children rushed to hospital after shooting at Toronto playground
"Police are looking for a subject with a firearm and will continue canvassing the neighbourhood and watching video. There are reportedly several surveillance cameras in the area. “We are going to do anything and everything we can to restore safety in this neighbourhood,” he said.

Nurse Stacy London said she had just arrived home from work when the shots rang out. A neighbour rushed up to her for help providing first aid to the victims before paramedics arrived.

“Everyone was around and there (were) two kids on the ground,” she said. “Very small kids.”

Neighbours were using napkins to try and stop bleeding. London told CTV News that one child was shot in the leg, a second child shot in the abdomen and a third child “grazed in the neck” by a bullet."

Paramedics confirmed that the younger child was shot in the abdomen and the older girl was shot in the ankle. Both underwent surgery and their conditions have been upgraded to non-life-threatening.

“Obviously, these two young girls are not the intended target. Some cowards came into this neighbourhood and opened fire into a playground,” Toronto police Chief Mark Saunders told reporters at the scene. “ This act is despicable, and rest assured that we’ll put adequate resources to resolve this one.”

Toronto paramedics received a call about 5 p.m. regarding a shooting at Alton Towers Circle, in the area of McCowan Rd. and McNicoll Ave. Seven shots were fired.

There were about a dozen children in the park at the time and one man who may have been the target, police said. He has been identified as a person of interest in the investigation.

Police are looking for two suspects who were in a car at the time — one driver and one male shooter who approached the park by foot and then escaped with the driver.

Sgt. Jim Gottell, 42 Division, said the vehicle was located in a parking lot behind the playground. He said the school the children attend has been notified, but declined to release the name of the institution.

“A male approached the park with a handgun and started to fire into the park,” he said. “At the time of the shooting the male suspect was on foot and he left the area in a car.”

"Gotell said police believe the intended target of the shooting was a male who was at the park at the time. Officers are looking to speak with this unidentified male as a person of interest in this shooting investigation"

Gotell later confirmed that both of the girls were in non-life-threatening condition.

Paramedics said a third victim was assessed at the scene but had no injuries."
