Chris Watts' slain family: Wife suspected infidelity

Around 5:15 a.m. Monday: Chris Watts leaves the family home. He told authorities he went to work. Their next-door neighbor, BM, was leaving for the gym at 5:15, which she does at that time every weekday, and she noticed Watts’ truck was idling in his driveway, she told the Longmont Times-Call. She said she hadn’t before seen him leaving home that early.

FR told the TV station Denver7 that he was told the truck was backed into the garage.
 
Defense DNA request denied in deaths of Colorado mom, kids

FREDERICK, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado has judge denied a request by a defense attorney for a man accused of killing his pregnant wife and two daughters to require a coroner to collect DNA from the necks of the young girls.

The judge said in an order Friday he would not tell the medical examiner’s office involved in the case how to do its job, KMGH-TV and the Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder reported.

Court documents filed by defense lawyer James Merson said the girls had been submerged in crude oil for four days.

“The couple had a combined income of $90,000 in 2014. But they also had tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt, along with some student loans and medical bills — for a total of $70,000 in unsecured claims on top of a sizable mortgage.

They said in the filing that their nearly $3,000 mortgage and $600 in monthly car payments formed the bulk of their $4,900 in monthly expenses.“

Republican lawmakers last tried to change the law after a 2015 case in Boulder County. A woman named Dynel Lane was charged with attempted murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy for cutting open a pregnant woman's belly and removing her unborn baby girl. Prosecutors said they could not charge Lane with murder because a coroner found no evidence the infant lived outside the womb.

State law does allow a homicide charge if a fetus was alive outside the mother's body and then killed. State lawmakers in 2013 also allowed prosecutors to add extra felony charges against anyone who commits a crime that causes the death of a fetus.“

Frederick police say they have 2-3 days of interviews to finish in Chris Watts case

“Law enforcement officials told Denver7 Friday that Chris Watts is in protective custody and being isolated from other inmates at the Weld County jail because of the publicity the case has received and say they still have several days of work to do before Monday’s deadline for charges to be filed.”

"In Weld County, the return of filing charges date is an administrative court date that is held at the clerk's office," White said. "We will electronically file the charges and since the defendant is in custody, he will be served the paperwork by the Weld County Sheriff's Office in jail."

She added that Christopher Watts is scheduled to appear in court in person on Tuesday to be read his rights regarding the charges. He currently faces three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, although that could change.”

“He has not yet been formally charged and is set to return to court on Tuesday.

"The suspect is presumed innocent until otherwise proven guilty in the court of law," Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said at a news conference Thursday.

Authorities have declined to comment on a potential motive.

"Our role now is to do everything we can to determine exactly what occurred and assist in filing the thorough case," Colorado Bureau of Investigation director John Camper added on Thursday.”

Chris Watts' affidavit expected to be made public Monday

An affidavit explaining why investigators believe a Colorado husband and father murdered his pregnant wife and family is expected to be made public Monday.

Autopsies were completed Friday on Shanann Watts, 34, and her daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste.

'She is the hardest working person I've ever known,' Shanann's younger brother Frankie Rzucek wrote in an emotional Facebook post Friday. 'No matter if her lupus was acting up or if she was pregnant, nothing stoped (sic) her from doing what needed to be done. 'She was very successful and driven,' he added.

Miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births are all more common in lupus sufferers, as is low birthweight. Problems for the mother include a higher risk of kidney problems. Preeclampsia and swelling of the joints, especially the knees.

'I hope it's a boy for him': Pregnant wife, weeks before husband allegedly killed her

NA said she became immediately concerned about Watts when she didn't hear from her on the day she went missing. She said Watts had plans to see her doctor that day and missed the appointment. She said she drove to the Watts' family home that day just as Chris Watts was pulling into the driveway.

SW'S Facebook: "Chris wants a boy," she said in a video. "I hope it's a boy for him. It will make him happy."
