BuzzFeed published a good article on the DDP, and it explains quite well why Colleen Fitzpatrick and Margaret Press have chosen not to do cases involving children.

The DNA Doe Project has a different kind of mission. Its volunteers are devoted to the dead, rather than the living. They don’t hunt elusive suspects; they put names to unidentified bodies.

The latest news is that the second attempt at DNA extraction for Orange Socks has succeeded.

Also John Clinton Doe is now officially a case after successful extraction of DNA from a femur.

• Lavender Doe – fully funded. Sequencing in progress. Estimate we'll have the files at the end of September.
• Annie Doe – Second extraction completed 9/14/18 - sufficient to send for sequencing. As soon as we have QC results (a couple weeks) we'll need to raise the rest of the funds for the resequencing.(DoeFundMe active on website. New donations via Facebook will be used for Annie.)
• Butler Co Jane Doe (OH) – extraction complete - starting sequencing.
• Transgender Julie Doe (FL) – 2nd round of extraction failed. Considering lab options. We will certainly keep trying with her if we can raise the funds.

Things are starting to snowball. This is really exciting.

I hope there's some sort of progress on DDP's approach to LE in Norway and Australia about the Isdal Woman and Somerton Man/Tamam Shud cases soon as well.

DNA Doe Project does not work on Snohomish Jane Doe's case anymore, according to Margaret Press in a recent comment on the DDP Facebook page:

Well, we knew there would be many files in from mid-October and on, and here's St. Tammany Parish John Doe's ethnicity report:

There is a good chance that STP John Doe has brown eyes. His mtDNA haplogroup is H, and his ethnicity report is included below. He has an interesting mix of several populations. The four biggest are: East Mediterranean, North Atlantic, West Mediterranean, and Baltic.

A lot of (new) information in this news segment that popped up in my fb newsfeed! Apparently, the LE agency is working hard to provide the DDP with a sufficient sample of Kern Jane Doe's DNA so they can identify her, as well.

As for Ventura Jane Doe, they've identified a distant (third?) cousin, and her father is probably hispanic. She is said to have been hitchhiking from somewhere near Bakersfield.
