Please know this is not a criticism of your post or anyone elses, but I truly don't buy into the thought that James won a large sum of money and someone followed him home. If that were the case, I truly believe LE would be sharing a heck of a lot more information than they have been. Also, they would warn the public that they might be in danger, if someone was desperate for money to follow folks home from the casino.

I wish it was that simple, for the family's sake, and that Jayme was found already.

This just smells of something personal to me. I am still not ruling out home invasion, but the more I read about this, the less I lean towards that.
I heard or read an interview with DC’s family recently and they said she was always helping people. Would go to people’s homes and “help” with things. Wonder if someone she helped may have been an abused woman who’s spouse may have gotten angry and unleashed his rage on the Closs family?

further: ...a K-9 trained to sniff out chemicals from concealed electronic devices has been utilized. DNA testing has been done on dozens of people as a process of elimination. Jayme's cell phone was found in the home, plugged in in the kitchen and apps on it are being analyzed. Sheriff Fitzgerald also confirmed undisclosed properties have been searched-- a chair, mattress and front door are among some of the items seized as evidence.

What concealed electronic devices are they looking for? Jayme's phone and moms phone were recovered.

DNA testing was done- so they have a reference sample to compare to... and they collected the
mattress
Maybe looking for jim’s Phone? Or a hidden recording device? It could be someone was recording the family inside the house and the family may never even have known it.

So...couple theories....
Maybe this is a friend of James....could be a new friend: could be reason this friend wants to be James' friend is because he's drawn to Jayme...wants to be near her. Perhaps something happened...maybe Denise picked up on something hinky @ the guy: an altercation occurs, the friend is 'cut out' of their lives etc.
So: he goes ballistic, kills the parents who are in his way to Jayme, and takes her.

Also, could be a long time friend - developed on unhealthy interest in Jayme...
Could be a long time friend who was once into Denise, maybe he has even tried to seduce her...she's rejected him - but James doesn't know, they've been friends since high school, so he still hangs around, hunts with James, watches Sunday football at their house & over time he becomes intrigued by Jayme (who looks a lot like Denise)....etc.
Same situation at the end: he's confronted, cut out of the family's life: takes his revenge....

JMO
Just ideas....
(have to add Nabokov's 'lolita' plays into newest theories: Humbert marries the mother to be near her daughter, so thinking some friend attaching himself to family to be near Jayme, (heck: maybe even a female who became friends with Denise, but I cannot see a woman kicking in that door then shooting James and hunting Denise down too)...can't remember how old Lolita was when he first saw her, 11-12 maybe?? Eh. Anyway....that 'inspired' these ideas...)

If motive or target remains unknown...there is no way to make a profile of perp or compare against other crimes. Could be anything from a random home invasion (without theft?) to a family dispute to a lover’s quarrel to a co-worker to fill-in-the-blanks. Jmo

I still can't make my mind up on this case, so many scenarios.

1. Jayme was the target
2. James and/or Denise were the target
3. All 3 were targeted (Jayme spared for unknown reasons)
4. A random attack
5. A robbery gone wrong
6. Mistaken identity/wrong property targeted

I always thought 1 and possibly 2, now i'm wondering about 4.

I have posted a video about 5 times now of Paul Blume stating on the news last night that Denise's sister spoke to her on the phone at 10:00 PM.

That would not be unusual, for close sisters to be in contact every one and half hours, (during waking time), either by phone, or by text.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an error in reporting.

Which is probably why the news article said the FBI person hadn't had any luck. They could compare MO's if they had enough evidence for that but wow seems a shot in the dark just based on released facts.

Its a possibility. As Judge Judy always says 'No good deed goes unpunished'.

Adding this info from the article in reference to "organized" category
  • Residency: Organized offenders may be married, have a family, and be well liked by their friends. Disorganized offenders, because of their mental instability and immaturity, tend to live alone or with a family member.
  • Proximity: The location of the perpetrator’s home in relationship to the crime scene is important. Most kill close to home, a factor that is particularly true with the first few victims. The area close to home is a comfort zone. With experience, however, the killer may move his predatory boundaries farther and farther from home.
  • Social skills: Killers who use a ruse to ensnare their victims, like Ted Bundy did, typically possess good social skills, whereas those who use a blitz-style attack are less comfortable with conversation.
  • Work and military histories: Organized offenders more often have a stable work history and are more likely to have left any military service with an honorable discharge. Disorganized offenders often are quite simply too unstable to hold a job in the long term or to complete military service.
  • Educational level: Organized offenders tend to have more schooling than their disorganized counterparts."
There is more but trying to keep it brief
Forensics: Profiling the Perpetrator - dummies

MOO: We know so little about the scene, but I guess there are a "mix" of organized & disorganized elements.

Organized/pre-planning:
Brought (at least one) tool/weapon.
Doesn't appear to have brought a phone w/locator on.
Door breach plan.
Cover of darkness.

Disorganized:
Victim call to 911.

I'm thinking the person does not possess good social skills. (Blitz).

looking for hidden electronics...I don't think they are looking for anything that is transmitting. there are devices to locate any thing that is transmitting threw the air and wouldn't require a dog. but batteries by now could be dead too.

The entire electronics angle does suggest they are looking for James' phone
There is no reason for it not to be there unless the perp took it - which means it's crucial to whatever transpired...

They have Jayme's phone already
Edit: sorry I thought this said they were looking for Jayme's phone. Yes James' phone is the one thing I have not heard anything about
