Now I'm curious as to how a 21yo recluse with no employment or employment history hired two attorneys?

Must be nice to have a Daddy who lets you live in a house for free, and gets you attorneys when you kill people in cold blood and steal a teen girl.

Seriously, this guy doesn't work, looks like he was kicked to the curb after basic training. He worked ONE day at Jennie-O, and quit.

This is interesting, do parents make losers with an entitlement mentality from enabling?

Doubt he "hired" them. His folks could have, but my guess is they were either assigned to him, or they realize that this is a case an attorney can earn some serious chops, if not cash up front. If I were a defense attorney, I might jump at this case: no forensic evidence tying my client to the crime scene; the possibility of trying to foist the planning and execution of the crime on someone else; the knowledge that the prosecution would want to avoid making Jayme take the stand.

I don't doubt that Patterson is the guy (no kidding), but a good defense attorney has some cards to play with here.

Would a 13 yr old be able to celebrate her birthday at a casino? In Cali, you need to be 18 to go to the Indian Casinos. And 21 for the ones giving out liquor. A 13 yr old wouldn't be allowed.
Depends on the casino, but many only put the age restriction on the casino itself. Kids can still stay at the hotel and do shows and pool and restaurant-buffet.

katydid23: yes, I think that it could be possible: they could have 'conference' or banquet rooms, etc. where parties could be held. If I am not mistaken there are pics of Jayme at the casino

Barron is small: the casino is the 'it' place to do anything...

MOO

BTW: I didn't like JPs attorneys language regardless.....if I were in that situation I'd say: 'no comment'

So happy that this case had the outcome that it did! It also points out why cases with unfamiliar murders/abductions are so difficult to solve for LE. Its my belief that had it not been for jayme escaping that LE was not close at all to solving this case. Not bc of lack of effort IMO but lack of evidence. With that said I pray that the monster that killed the girls in delphi will also be found. I believe that they also have a very uphill battle with little evidence and I sure hope that they get a tip that will bring closure to that family as well. I'm not trying to get off topic, Just kind of smacked me in the face how difficult it is to solve a murder or abduction by a complete stranger. MOO

In Atlantic City, underage customers are allowed in restaurants and shops, just not on the gaming floor. Is there a restaurant at this casino? Shops?

BBM, Yes there are rich parents spoiled entitled kids out there, its nothing new IMO.

That is what i was wondering about as well. From the MSM article i posted upthread the Patterson family owned that business according to the article.
And Mr. Closs worked there.
Do the Patterson's still own Jenny O? They did get divorced and left the area didn't they? Hence why the perp. was still living there to murder Jayme's parents and kidnap her.
I don't know if any of that ties in though?
 what??? I gotta back up!
Moo

Has anyone read this on other media sites or is it a misprint? While he was gone?
“turns the radio up and sometimes has people come over while he is gone.
Sheriff: Closs ‘targeted’ by 21-year-old Gordon suspect
Wow.
But maybe the perp had her locked up, and threatened her with god knows what if she tried to contact a visitor for help ?

My opinion is that her relatives should stop with the photos ... just seems like a privacy issue for this teen.

Sounds like there won't be any more arrests.
Hope he enjoys the rest of his life in a cage.

I wonder about that. Life has choices and there are legal consequences. He cold blooded murdered her parents and took Jayme. I am not a fan of the death penalty, but did see a quote here earlier where having a death penalty could compel the defendant to plea deal with a confession for life in prison. That likely won’t happpen here, though, since WI doesn’t have the death penalty option. Hopefully, with the weight of the evidence, his attorneys will advise him, the best thing to do is plead guilty. If he pleads guilty, Jayme won’t have to testify, if that’s her choice. We will see Monday what plea Jake Patterson enters, if that is an option so soon.

The "accuser" in this case is the state prosecutor.
You have a constitutional right to face the state that is accusing you.
You DO NOT have the constitutional right to face your victim and you cannot force a victim to testify.

That's incorrect.

The Sixth Amendment Confrontation Clause states:

" In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to be confronted with the witnesses against him."

And that means they get to cross examine them.

You can force a victim to testify but if they do, the defendant gets to cross them. No witness is allowed to testify without the defendant being able to cross examine. That's the constitution.

The 6th Amendment's Confrontation Clause - FindLaw

And while a victim can't be compelled to testify, without victim testimony in most cases that means there's no case.

Since we have a couple of attorneys posting here now, let me throw this out there -

Do you think there will be additional charges piling up as this moves along, or will they just keep it at the homicide and kidnapping charges?
I do, I just don’t know against whom.

Sorry but where did you see anything saying the Patterson's owned Jennie-O? That just doesn't sound right.

"Jennie-O Turkey Store is a brand name of turkey products. It is now a subsidiary of the Hormel Foods Corporation in Willmar, Minnesota."

ETA: UPDATE - Original poster was mistaken. The Pattersons do NOT own Jennie-O.

Couple ways to take the statement: 'he turns up the radio and sometimes has people come over when he's gone' (btw sorry quote function not happening for me)

I am guessing here that they may have spent most of their time together in one room: if someone came: he turned up the radio and left her alone in that room.....JMO

It is a strange statement though....
