Circumstances of Disappearance
Natalee was last seen in the early morning hours of May 30th 2005 in Oranjestad, Aruba. She lived in Birmingham, Alabama at the time but was on a graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba. Natalee was with 124 other students and several chaperones at the time and was scheduled to leave at 11 am on May 30th 2005. Holloway was last seen getting into a car with three local Aruban teens. She was never seen or heard from again. The three men who picked natalee up were quickly identified as Joran van der sloot and two brother named deepak and satish kalpoe. The boys were questioned and during this Aruban police and FBI as well as the America FBI and agents lead a recovery/ rescue operation for Holloway. They did air searches ground searches and divers searched the ocean floor for Holloway’s body but the water search proved fruitless. The boys car was tested and police thought they had found human blood but it turned out not to be blood. In the summer of 2005 the three boys were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and killing Holloway on the night of her disappearance, however the boys were soon released due to lack of evidence. Soon after the release police drained 2 ponds and searched a bird sanctuary for Holloway’s remains but they did not find her body in the ponds and they were not able to fully search the bird sanctuary because it was a protected area. The search ended and the case was closed in 2007 with no charges filed. The case was reopened in 2008 after a confession was made by joran van der sloot. He confessed that he went with Holloway to the beach and that Holloway presumably died from a seizure, he called his friend who he claimed took Holloway’s body out to sea and threw her overboard, joran claimed she may have still been alive when being dumped. Police searched crab traps after a tip came in that joran dumped Holloway’s body inside of a crab trap and in December of 2008 police used sonar technology and found what appeared to be a human skull but it turned out not to be. In 2010 a human mandible was found washed up on a beach and many people speculated that the jawbone may have been Holloway’s but dental records ruled her out. The jawbone was also tested against Amy Lynn Bradley who vanished from a cruise ship heading from Aruba to Curacao but testing also proved she was not a match. Holloway’s case is often linked to Amy Lynn Bradley because they both vanished in the same region but there is not enough evidence to connect them. Joran van der sloot is the prime suspect in natalee’s case. Almost the entire world and police believe joran drugged Natalee and killed her. In 2017 an informant came forward and claimed to have known the man who helped Joran van der sloot dispose of Natalee’s body in 2010. He claimed that natalee was buried in a cul-de-sac filled with caucus after she died from an overdose of date rape drugs. According to him they dug up her skeletal remains, took them to a property owned by the accomplice, John ludwick, crushed her remains, and burned her cranium. They then said her remains were either buried in another location or dumped at sea. Human bone fragments were given to police by John ludwick but the remains were ruled out as being natalee after a DNA test. Joran vander sloot is currently serving a 28 years sentence for murdering Stephanie Flores who lived in Lima, Peru. He killed her on May 30th 2010, exactly 5 years to the day that Holloway disappeared. John ludwick was killed by his ex girlfriend in self defense in March of 2018 after he attempted to kidnap her. Natalee was described as a king young woman who was very talented and loved by all, she was getting ready to go to college that September but she was never able to achieve her dreams in adult hood. Her body has never been found but she is a presumed homicide victim.
