Libby Squire: One week on

Detective Superintendent Matt Hutchinson has released a statement this morning about the investigation into the disappearance of Libby Squire in Hull.

Det Supt Hutchinson said: “It has been one week since the last positive sighting of Libby in Hull and I want to clarify a number of points.

“During this week we have undertaken a large scale search for Libby with assistance from members of the public, students, university staff, as well as our partners in other emergency services.

“We have received hundreds of calls and have been following up numerous lines of enquiry.

“We are still treating Libby’s disappearance as a missing person’s enquiry. I have said previously that we are keeping an open mind as to her whereabouts and that is still very much the case.

“Our number one priority is to find Libby Squire and we are still conducting extensive searches and appealing for any information from the public.

“Last night a 24-year-old man from Hull was arrested around 9pm on suspicion of abduction at an address on Raglan Street. He is still in custody.

“I can also confirm that we have recovered a car on Raglan Street which is currently forming just one part of our investigation.

“During the course of our investigations we have spoken to a taxi driver and another motorist who stopped to help Libby on the night. I want to make it clear that these two individuals are not suspects in this enquiry.

“My officers have been and will continue to work around the clock in our search for Libby.

“Tonight Thursday 7 February there will PCSOs and officers in the area of Beverley Road and the University who will be handing out leaflets and speaking with as many people as we can to gather as much information as possible about Libby.

“They will be in the area from about 5pm going into tomorrow morning.

“We also have a special ‘media van’ with a large screen which is being driven around the area around the same time with information displayed which will help reinforce our appeal to find her.

“I have specialist officers who have been supporting Libby’s parents throughout, and I want to say a personal thank you to Lisa and Russ Squire and Libby’s extended family and friends for their strength and bravery during this difficult time.

“I am also aware that this has been a worrying time for residents living in the area and the wider university community. I would like to thank them for their help and patience, and want to offer my reassurance that my officers will continue to be in the area over the coming days.

“Please come forward with any information you may have no matter how insignificant you think it might be.

“Call us on 101 or if you want to remain anonymous, then you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Please note:

We have two women reporting screams that night, in two different locations.

We have a grey, bearded man who saw Libby sitting on the bench at 11.45pm, offering help. He has spoken to police and was "very helpful". He is not the man in custody who also claims he offered to help Libby.

Here is a new question if anyone knows the answer to. The creek that is near her house on Wellesley street. Can you cross that creek on foot to get to the other side and work your way over to the playing fields and that pond area on foot?

Trying to think of a possibility she may have took off on foot and was chased across that river into the area of the fields on foot?

Because if not on foot then it means when he picked her up at the bench then instead of driving her home he would have driven on Beverly road over the bridge with her in his car to get to that area. I dont think she would have accepted to ride across that river without fighting the whole way unless he knocked her out or something while in the car. Because her home was not across the river.

Trying to match up the screams with how she got there.

Would a bus have gone past the bench at 12:09 ? As buses now all have external view cameras on them and I presume exact times of buses are logged through a system.

Possibly Ched. It seems doubtful there is a fixed CCTV camera covering the bench, and the wording of the police statement suggests she was definitely there at 11:40 and they think she was there until about 12:09. I'm going to assume that a bus or dashcam has determined those times.

If you're talking about the drain, then it's more of a stream and there's a bridge with a road going across it.

Appeal to refrain from speculation following arrest in connection with Libby Squire

Detective Superintendent Matt Hutchinson is appealing to members of the media and public asking them to refrain from speculation about the name of the suspect arrested in relation to the search for Libby Squire.

He said: "This is a live investigation with multiple active lines of enquiry and any speculation as to the names of suspects or details of the case could seriously harm the investigation and our ability to find Libby.

"We thank the public and the media for their ongoing support and concern and ask for their continuing co-operation."

From The Daily Mirror:

A young woman’s “dark and eerie” screams were heard coming from a park shortly after missing university student Libby Squire was last seen.

A local, who wanted to stay anonymous, said the cries rang out “seven or eight” times and went on for about 15 minutes.

One resident said: “I woke at about quarter past 12 and there was a scream. It sounded like a woman’s scream towards the back of the park, where the river bank and pond is.

“Then 30 seconds later there was another scream. She must have screamed seven or eight times. All of the screams had gaps between them. The screams must have gone on for about 15 minutes.

“They sounded eerie, they sounded dark. Then I saw a male running.”Locals say the park is always full of youngsters drinking and taking drugs, so unusual sounds tend to be ignored.

Police have been searching the park since Friday. A forensics officer was yesterday seen taking samples by the river.

It doesn't state wherabouts this anonymous local lives in relation to the park but the nearest houses appear to be on Claremont Avenue. The back of the park where the river and pond is seem a fair distance from these houses so it must have been extremely loud screams to have been heard by this person. It also doesn't say exactly where they saw the male running from (or to).

_20190207_232818.JPG Posting this again because new thread and may help.

Pin is Libby's house/street - Wellesley Avenue. Beresford is the long road that runs towards Oak Playing Fields - the park with the pond that keeps being searched. The pond is the large pond next to the River Hull. The drain - the small river/stream - behind Libby's street is very thin but can be seen running behind Libby's home and Beresford has a bridge crossing it - you can cross this bridge on foot or by car to get to the playing fields.

Hope this helps..
