GUILTY GA - Richard Vinson Merritt, 44, attorney, arrested for mom's murder, DeKalb Co., 5 Feb 2019

I have relatives in that area and alerted them!

Network news is all over this. One legal pundit on HLN suggested he’s the type of hat might kill again, )MOO, as I interpreted his statement). Where is he hiding?
Is someone helping him or has he taken hostages? I think the car would be found by now, if he’s on the road. Jmo.

I found the answer. Not going to post out of respect for his ex-wife and children.

Sometimes life throws folks a curve ball that they can't catch/ handle.

Not excusing his behavior but I have a better understanding of his backstory.

You can start a private conversation about this if you want.

Can you add me in please or do you want me to start one

I am also interested in joining the conversation.

Merritt was issued a 30 year sentence last month after he was found guilty of 34 counts of theft and exploitation. It was also found he stole more than $400,000 from 17 clients and spent to proceeds on lavish holidays and a Porsche

An $80,000 car and $500-$1000 dollar a day vacation will eat that up very rapidly.

I don't want to post articles naming his ex or children since
she is in hiding fearing her safety. She states he actually
pawned the handicap van needed by her wheelchair bound
daughter. This guy has gone off the deep end and needs
to be found and stopped before someone else gets hurt.

he must be using cash if LE can't trace him. He could be in
Mexico by now or holed up somewhere holding hostages.
I hope his ex-clients and his remaining family are staying
out of sight in a safe place until he's caught.

Why did he need a cousin from Alabama to come take him to Cobb jail?
I mean clearly he had no intention of going, but wonder if his mom or even the cousin questioned it.
Take an Uber, loser

Just guessing that he'd been hinting to his mom that he wasn't
going to report for jail and his mom, in trying to assure he'd
report as ordered, asked the cousin to come from Al. and make
sure he got to jail. Merritt had already missed the deadline
to report for jail the day before. So cousin was a backup.

RM mother was listed on the Cobb County sheriff's report as 2nd Bail Bondsman after 2nd Chance Bonds. He was gonna skip and she'd lose her house most likely???

I hope he doesn't follow the actions of Mark Barton, another Atlantan, who was crazy.

***Sorry I didn't respond privately to anyone yesterday. Long flight...and I had a Karin Slaughter book to read. Will catch up today.

Because he was never going.
He played along and said all the right things to his attorney, etc.
He was a criminal defense atty. so he may have had some "acquaintances", former clients he was defending, just like that other Cobb County attorney Fred Tokars, who could help him disappear.
