Houston woman was 'upset' before disappearing: police

[...]

Jennifer Ann Scott-Perkins, 48, left her home on Jan. 2 and has not been seen since leaving a friend's home in the town of Shepherd, located about 60 miles northeast of Houston.

Houston police said Perkins made several phone calls near Highway 146 and Highway 787 near Rye, in north Liberty County.

According to investigators, Perkins sounded upset during a call made just before she disappeared.

Nothing much that I’m aware of. There is a casino up that way near Livingston, it’s a dry one so I haven’t been there. Access to the Sam Houston Forest for outdoor activities.
I was responding to ilovematt's response that "you go to Shephard for a reason." I was thinking there's something in Shepherd (other than a friend) that she may have gone for.

Starting at the quickie mart near where she last phone called I followed the highway east on Google maps. It takes a while but the road goes right past the Trinity River and there doesn't appear to be any guard rails. Whether by accident or intent it would be easy to go into the water there (and note, if you follow the whole road on Google Maps watch the silver car headed Westbound that you will see in this still shot - he is all OVER the road). Investigator Rasberry and Texas EquuSearch director Tim Miller said the FM 787 bridge might be a logical location to search because her car had not been found abandoned and there is a paved ramp leading down to the flooded Trinity River.

It wasn’t the first time investigators had searched the area.

Just two weeks earlier, Texas EquuSearch boat operator Dennis Waters attempted to use the sonar to scan the bottom of the river near the same ramp, but swift currents and flooded conditions prevented a successful attempt due to the dangerous flooded conditions.

A drop in the water level to a safe zone allowed for another attempt with the sonar and a vehicle matching the description of the one driven by Perkins was located and retrieved from about 35-feet of water.

Human remains identified, from submerged car off Highway 787 Trinity River bridge

Human remains found in a submerged vehicle off Highway 787's Trinity River bridge in north Liberty County earlier this month have been identified according to Liberty County Sheriff's lead investigator Steven Rasberry.

Rasberry says the remains are of Jennifer Scott-Perkins, who was reported missing from Houston on January 2, 2019, according to a Liberty County Sheriff's Office news release.
