GUILTY MD - Coast Guard Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson, plotted white supremacist mass murder, Feb 2019

So he will be out among everyone
Yes, but maybe not for a while.

With just the gun and drug charges, he is facing 30 years of federal time if given the maximum on each charge and then ordered to serve them consecutively. At the very least, the hit list is going to be an aggravating circumstance.

As for the absence of the terrorism charges…..

Federal prosecutors have been recently accused of trumping up charges or contriving aggravating situations in some recent extremism trials.

This has led to juries being less than impressed with charges that three Ohio Earth Firster types had, in between pot smoking binges, seriously plotted to blow up bridges and dams during rush hour. Likewise, juries have not convicted the leaders of the Oregon standoff of serious terrorism charges after concluding that some aggravating circumstances were artificially contrived by paid informants.

Though none of the above circumstances may apply to this case, previous mis steps may of made persecutors hesitant to bring terrorism charges unless supported by very clear evidence of intent to carry out attacks- not just jotting down a list of “people I don’t like” while on “ ‘roids”.

Coast Guard lieutenant facing federal charges to be released on bail

The Coast Guard lieutenant accused of stockpiling weapons and illegal drugs will be released on bail, a federal judge ruled Thursday afternoon.

Christopher Hasson is facing weapons and drug charges. Prosecutors said he was planning a domestic terror attack targeting Democratic politicians and journalists.

Attorneys for Hasson argue their client should get a new hearing because he is not facing any terror-related charges.

Its so sad that people will throw a tantrum over Jussie but when a self proclaimed white supremecist who had the weapons and plans to assassinate politicians of a certain side is not:
1. publicized to the level it should be
2. released on bail

This man is dangerous, is a racist. Jussie is a mentally ill man people like to pick on.
Shame on this country for it's priorities. There is real problems that have peoples lives at stake and theres 5 threads with over 250 pages of hate for JS but 4 total pages for an actual terrorist like this man.

Same goes for the Maga bomber who literally just detailed how and who radicalized him to send actual bombs to journalists and politicians, of course only one side.

That is the whole issue. If he had plans to commit terrorism, then he needs to be charged with terrorism (and not released on bail). But, if he is only facing gun charges, he needs to be afforded the standard bail.

In the end, the apparent dropping of the terrorism charges could be due to plain lack of sufficient evidence, or out of caution. Federal prosecutors have recently taking a beating from activist on both the political right and the political left who accuse them of using paid agent provocateurs, trumped up charges, or artificially contrived situations.

These accusations include Earth Firsters being deliberately seduced by sexy eco informants with a professed dislike of anarchists into plotting to blow up dams to informants encouraging unarmed right wing Oregon nature center occupiers to admire other people’s pistols then- photographing them as being “armed”.

Likewise, juries have been less than impressed by federal charges that pot fogged Ohio ecos were seriously plotting to blow up bridges during rush hour (why, they would even want to was pretty fuzzy. A Clinton appointed judge quickly dismissed terrorism charges against dimwitted Christian fundamentalists after finding the evidence that they planned to go on a crusading rampage against the police (again, why was not explained) to be very weak.

Federal prosecutors might only be pursuing terrorism charges if there is over whelming evidence. Absent those charges, the guy has access to bail. But… look on the bright side, he is still facing serious time and the loss of his pension.

There is no brightside when a white supremecist terrorist with plans for murder and a HUGE stockpile of weapons and ammunition is allowed to be free, even if only until trial.

Even so, prosecutors insisted that Hasson was researching potential political targets for mass murder and stockpiling weapons because of his white supremacist beliefs. In addition to prominent Democrats in Congress and media figures, he also researched the home addresses of two Supreme Court justices and leaders of social media companies, prosecutors revealed this week.

A search of his computer also showed he'd been following the plans for a destabilizing terrorist attack as laid out by Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik — a far-right figure claimed as an influence by the man behind the recent deadly attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, prosecutors said.

If this man isnt a terroist maybe they should've let Dzhokhar Tsarnaev out on bail too.

Coast Guard officer accused of drafting hit list of politicians and media figures sentenced to more than 13 years in prison

A former Coast Guard lieutenant who was accused of compiling a hit list of Democratic politicians and media personalities was sentenced Friday to more than 13 years in prison, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. The decision comes after 50-year-old Christopher Hasson pled guilty to four felonies in October.

U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel sentenced Hasson to 13 years and four months for charges including possession of firearms by an addict to and unlawful user of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance. He has been detained since his arrest on February 15, 2019.

"Mr. Hasson held racist and hateful views, and he spoke racist and hateful speech," said United States Attorney Robert K. Hur, who announced the decision."But Mr. Hasson crossed the line between racist thoughts and racist speech, he crossed the line into racist and violent action."

As a side note, the sentence is federal, not state.

Though even maximum security federal prisons (super max the exception) tend to be far more pleasant than many state equivalents, prisoners stay far longer in federal prisons than state prisons.

Federal prisoners must serve 87%of their sentence before being automatically released for good time. In contrast, my state allows for all but the most violent felons to apply for parole at 33% and most of the rest are eligible at 50%.
