Christchurch hospital treating 48 patients with gunshot wounds

Christchurch Hospital is treating 48 patients with gunshot wounds, ranging from young children to adults.

The injuries range from critical to minor, according to a statement from David Meates, Chief Executive of Canterbury District Health Board. Around 200 family members are on site waiting for news of loved ones.

This breaking news story reminds me of the Charleston parisher shootings in South Carolina when Dylann Roof opened fire inside a Christian church due to his hatred of blacks and to start a race war. He too was a white supremacist.

I have no idea why people do things like this, they are not going to achieve anything and their lives are basically over the moment they're caught.

It is senseless hate filled mass murder and nothing more.

A gunman who livestreamed himself opening fire at the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch also posted a 73-page manifesto online addressing his reasons for the attack.

The 28 year-old man identified himself is from Australia.

In the manifesto he described himself as “just a regular White man”. He noted he was born “to a working class, low-income family … who decided to take a stand to ensure a future for my people”.

He said he carried out the attack to “directly reduce immigration rates to European lands”.

He described his reasons for the disgusting attack as to “show the invaders that our lands will never be their lands, our homelands are our own and that, as long as a white man still lives, they will NEVER conquer our lands and they will never replace our people”.

He had been planning an attack for up to two years and only decided on Christchurch three months ago. NZ was not his original choice.

Police in New South Wales say there has been no specific threat to any mosque in Sydney or elsewhere in the state. In a statement it added:

Police have increased patrols and senior officers have also reached out to community and religious leaders across the state to provide support and reassurance.

NSW Police Force will continue to do everything possible to ensure the safety and security of all members of the community and everyone should continue to go about their business without fear.

NZ is one of the most peaceful places in the world to live. Kiwi's just don't act like that, the Police don't even carry guns. I am surprised and horrified and hope my son is ok. I used to live in Linwood.
