Missing person identified

The identity of a missing Norfolk man was released at a press conference late Friday afternoon as law enforcement offices continue to search for him.

The man was identified as 30-year-old Scott E. Goodman of Norfolk.

Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk said Goodman was last seen at about 4 a.m. Thursday on top of his car in a field just east of North First Street near the levee. He was later observed being carried away by a surge of water.

Volk said that because of the rapidly rising and surging waters, there was no real possibility of a rescue at the time.

Police have searched the area where he was last seen on the ground and through the air with drones, but Goodman still has not been seen since Thursday morning, Volk said.

It was first responders that saw him and had to abandon their efforts as he was swept further away from them in rapidly deteriorating conditions. Apparently, he tried to drive through rapidly rising water and was swept away. Norfolk man swept away by floodwaters identified

People don't realize that even a foot of fast moving water can force a car off the road. Search Continues for Missing Norfolk Man

The search for a missing Norfolk man continues as authorities comb the North Fork Elkhorn River.

Members of Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Norfolk Police and other agencies searched the area Thursday morning looking for any sign of 30-year-old Scott Goodman, who went missing in Norfolk on March 14th after falling into flood waters.

Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk said in a news conference last Friday crews attempted several rescues to retrieve Goodman from the top of his car, but was swept away by the current.

Sadly, a man died while trying to rescue Scott.

"When Columbus farmer James Wilke learned that rising floodwaters had stranded a motorist along a nearby country road early Thursday, he fired up his tractor and went to help in spite of the wind and rain.

"Guided by volunteer first responders, Wilke set off down Monastery Road and across the bridge over Shell Creek.

"But the bridge collapsed under the tractor’s weight, throwing the 50-year-old into the flood-swollen creek. After a frantic search by neighbors, his body was found downstream about nine hours later, near his own farm."

Read the article again, the stranded motorist he was trying to rescue when he died was rescued by Mr. Wilke's cousin so it is NOT Scott. Still, a brave, brave thing to do.

County Sheriff Mike Unger says the remains were found Saturday on private property about 3 miles (5 kilometers) east of Stanton. Last month skeletal remains were found about 3 miles southwest of Stanton.

The sheriff says he's confident neither of the remains are those of Scott Goodman, a Norfolk man who was last seen March 14 being swept away by Elkhorn floodwaters on the east side of Norfolk upstream.
