I've spent a lot of time in marbella and estepona, for me it's a relaxed happy place. Lot of big drugs and money men on the go though.

I think the last part of this is relevant in this case, coupled with the quietness surrounding it.

Haha.... ok. But people all over the world hook up. There is no negative connotation to one adult having consensual sex with another adult. That’s what a hook up is. Americans are very prudish when it comes to sex. At least that’s what my Argentinian friends tell me. So I’m not sure what “awful reputation” you are referring to.

In any event, the article mentioned the “hook up” aspect of Tinder. Not me.
 
Oh my. This seems so dodgy. I feel for the sister but I too think hers is a much different reaction than most victims have when they happen upon this forum. They seem like such fit, capable men and such kind friendly faces. Maybe they met up with a tinder scam. I wonder if police have gotten access to that tinder account.
 
Hi, i'm new, and have been following this case.

It all seems highly weird, and while the Mum and Sister keep posting on their own face book pages that these two are missing and they've heard nothing, there seems to be no public appeals other than the Sussex Police FB page and a few newspaper mentions dating back to the beginning of April.

This article below was put onto one of the Sussex Police FB pages, with the suggestion it could be them, but the daughter insists it's not.

British father and son arrested at Alicante airport for trying to smuggle 400 grams of hashish back to London - Olive Press News Spain


It does seem like a probable option, the only two reasons i can imagine for them not contacting family is that they are either dead or in custody.

The buying new sim cards thing is also slightly weird in that you would have assumed they would give their family the new numbers, their contact number while they were away.

Neither seem to be registered on missing persons websites, and there doesn't seem to be anything apart from the Olive Press articles in spain. If it was your relatives that had gone missing, you would be out there putting posters up, leaflets, getting them mentioned on tv and radio.

It seems very quiet and because the Sussex Police page says dial 999 if you see them, rather than 101, i'm thinking there is way more to this.

Or the rest of the family may genuinely not have known what they were up to, hence reporting them missing. They may not have known they were going to swap SIM cards and not be contactable. Then after their arrest they would have had their phones taken off them and may have chosen not to let the family know what is going on.

I'm not sure what type of vibe I'm getting with this case but I did want to comment on the sim cards.

I have traveled abroad many summers. The first couple years we just used wifi because as many of you stated...it's widely available and free. Super inconvenient though because as soon as you step away from wifi you don't have a GPS. You haven't a clue how close the uber guy is. So we learned about buying pre-paid sim cards in the country we were visiting. Love it. Wouldn't go without it now.

It could be as simple as this with these folks. It's crazy expensive to use it to make calls or text so we've never given the numbers out to family...only used it for data and gps mostly.

I might be utterly wrong here, but looking through Daniel (Danny) Poole's Facebook page, he has several pro-cannabis posts about using it for medical purposes. The two people in the article (whom I think there is some chance it is them) were arrested for having Hashish on them at the airport. I wonder if he has any conditions for which he has found cannabis helpful and travels abroad now and again in order to obtain some. Just a random thought and there is certainly no solid evidence of this, I just wondered. I also know nothing about drugs and what amount would be considered normal for personal use or dealing.

Do you then swap SIM cards in and out in order to make\receive phone calls? I have no idea if swapping is even possible.

Do you just do a SIM card for one phone, leaving one connected to home? Or do you stay in touch with those at home via email or some other way?

My new WS name should probably be " clueless in Wyoming."

Yes you would just take yours out and insert the new one for the trip. Some phones even have dual SIM slots.
 
My dad and his girlfriend Tara had split in October.
They were on and off although he was looking to have another girlfriend he was heartbroken and yes most definitely ready for a new life, but not one in which he would abandon his family and disappear.
They did rent a car, police haven’t been in contact regarding its whereabouts.

They were looking to put a deposit down on a property, and they were hoping to find one while they were away there.

Myself and other younger brother moved into a house of our own. My dad wanted a place in Spain and the spare bedroom in our house was going to be his base, for when he came back to see us.
It is obvious that these were the intentions to us as a family.

My defensive reaction is purely based on the fact my Facebook is being stalked by people who would never understand what this feels like! I am grateful for the people who want to help but some of these comments are useless!
I’ve also been in contact with the BBC I want as much coverage we can get: I want my dad and brother back so why assume that I haven’t tried to get it into the press.

Ok @Laurynpoole, we are here to be useful. And there are people on this site who joined because they were in a similar position to you, so please know some members understand (or can at least empathise with) exactly what you're going through.

Apologies for our misunderstanding of the Tinder situation - I believe the papers originally reported Tara was his partner so it did seem strange BUT we are more aware than most that they often get it wrong! Thank you for setting it straight. None of us believe that your dad and Liam have disappeared voluntarily, so we'd like to try and help, if you'll let us.

First things first, you need to find out if they rented a car where that car is now? Did it get returned or has it been reported stolen by the rental company? Do you have a description of it? I hate to say it, but it might be that they had a car accident somewhere remote and haven't been found yet.

Or... did they have a large amount of cash with them for a property deposit and have been set up and conned for the money? Perhaps they told someone they had money and have been robbed?

The car and the money would be my first two thoughts based on what you've just told us. I'm sure others will be along with more ideas to help.

Do you know yet where they were last seen on the Tuesday and do you believe any of the rumoured sightings might be viable? I suppose if they've been looking at properties and had a car they could have travelled anywhere in the area.

Finally, have you considered setting up a "Find Danny & Liam" Facebook page? It is the best way to get their faces and location circulated around southern Spain. Millions of Brits travel there yet we are hearing some in the area haven't even heard about them being missing, this is the fault of Spanish police and media. Two weeks is a LONG time (feels even longer to you, no doubt) but their details need to be flooding Estepona and surrounding areas asap and it looks like you're going to have to be pushing it yourself.

OMG Lauryn, I am so sorry. Did they have the deposit with them or was it all going through the bank?

You'll need to alert the British communty in the Málaga area, they may be able to help. Start with the reporter who wrote about Daniel and Liam. His email and twitter are next to the article. The fact that they may have been house searching is very important, there may be agencies who had contact with them.

Also, put all the data out about that car that you can find. Locating the car may give you an idea where they are. Make life difficult for the Police, I know it is un-English to do so, but this is an emergency - and let them get the facts.

PS You will find a lot of nonsens on line. Ignore it. Only use what is useful to you. Like sieving gold, you have to go through heaps of rubbish too.

Hi Lauryn

I'm so sorry for your situation.

If you haven't already you should contact the British Consulate in Malaga, you can find their number and email on line.

Also there are a number of english radio stations in malaga, google and contact them.

Has someone been to their hotel and collected their belongings, just wondering if they have passports and money, or have accessed any monies?

People do tend to leave some sort of trail or clue unless they are trying hard to disappear which of course was not the case here.
